224535 2004-03-24 11:54:00 INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW NVIDIA DRIVER INSTALLER

After you have downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run,
begin installation by exiting X, cd'ing into the directory containing
the downloaded file, and run:

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run

The .run file is a self-extracting archive. When the .run file is
executed, it extracts the contents of the archive, and runs the contained
`nvidia-installer` utility, which will walk you through installation of
the NVIDIA driver.

Exiting X How can I do that ???????????????????

Downloaded the driver and will try to install "What's the worst that could happen" LOL

224536 2004-03-25 09:38:00 If its the paid xandros then try running whatever utility they include to reconfigure your display. I'm fairly certain they include the nvidia driver. It will be a lot safer & easier than the driver fron nvidia's site.

I'm not familiar enough with xandros or the nvidia driver give any specific instructions. Hopefully someone else will be able to assist (Are you out there Chill?).

224538 2004-03-25 11:09:00 I wonder if you can use the Generic driver....

Dont see why not.

I'll see if I can find an old post, me and Jen have both written a couple of good HowTo's (Time to add to the FAQ? That one of Jens was bloody marvelous!?)

224540 2004-03-27 09:09:00 I had a look C but it dont look good.
Terminal window commands dont work in xandros "su _" teleinit 3 - dont do anything .

I need to get past "Exiting X" How can I do that.

All the commands tell me what to do but not WHERE or How.

If I was doing this for sex I would not get my fly undone.

224541 2004-03-27 15:46:00 Try:
su -

and if you read the posts in their entirety, you'd see Jen corrects herself and says to use telinit, or better still, init 3

Give that a try :-)

224542 2004-03-27 22:28:00 telinit yip I did pick that up .
Tryed em all and nothing.
Did get through to install the drivers one time and was met with running x bugger off .

Xandros tells me are installed
Xandros-NVIDIA modules-Source-1.0-5336 (=1.0-2-1)
Xandros-kernel-sourse-2.4.24 (=1.0.12-1)

Me thinks it's time to give up on linux $130.00 down the drain lol

224543 2004-03-28 04:36:00 The run levels are different on debian based distros.

init 2 - Gives you test only mode.
init 3 - Gives you the normal grphical mode.

224544 2004-03-28 04:42:00 You shouldn't need to exit the X Window system. It just won't use any new settings until it is restarted. ;-) Just use the terminal to do the installation (after su - ) then logout and log in again. Or reboot. Graham L (2)
