2004-03-24 03:52:00 | Xtra Jetstream users BEWARE ! Who among the Xtra Jetstream users here has had an increase in emails "escaping" there so called spam filters since Xtra changed there jetstream plans? Be careful out there as it appears its not in Xtra's interests to stem the flow of spam emails through any Jetstream accounts. I wonder why that would be *sarcasm* | vfr750 (4239) | |

I > wonder why that would be *sarcasm* > I have heard this said by a few here as well BUT prior to Spam filter I would get reguarly 3 -4 spam a day (I know small compared to others) now I would be lucky if I get 1 a week. I would also hazard a guess that the more emails that are sent then the more open you are to getting spam. Avoid *forwarding those office jokes that make their way around. I cant see how making internet faster can increase the liklihood of spam, they dont seem related to me. |

2004-03-24 09:54:00 | "Conspiracy theory" but the co-relation comes from the fact that on the new capped plans if you go over your limit you either get charged so much per mb or as the case is on the flat rate plan you get dropped to 64k for the remaining portion of your billing month. So if your selling something and you want it to be successful what better way to do so than to remove or alter something that would ultimately slow the amount you could sell ie: if your cliejnts arent downloading spam at the rate prior to your installation of filters, then your end bottom line will be lower as fewer clients would run over there limit.Just a theory, but food for thought perhaps. | vfr750 (4239) | |
2004-03-24 10:54:00 | Blame it on no body but yourself... We have not got a single junk mail on our Xtra account, since we got our PC/Internet back in late 1990s. I mean not one single junk email....

2004-03-24 11:56:00 | Sorry, but I have to agree with vfr750. Before Xtra introduced Spam filtering, we would not receive any Spam (I'm a bit of an email nazi with my family at home). Since the Spam filter was introduced, email starting coming in tagged as Spam (correctly - so no real problem). We recently changed our Xtra plan to Jetstream from dial-up. Suddenly not only are we getting these tagged Spam email, but untagged Spam is also coming through. It literally happened the day we connected. Bill

2004-03-24 22:58:00 | Just reflecting here, since the mydoom/sco virus hit I received a huge number (6000+)on my son's account (which was thoroughly compromised by the previous owner of that address, who surfed not wisely but too well) and I also experienced a sharp increase in spam received on other accounts that were previously immune. That suggests to me that some of the people I correspond with on those accounts were infected and as a consequence my own email addresses were also compromised and are now out there in the wild, so to speak! Since the tail-off of mydoom, which did not die completely Feb 14th as it was supposed to do, I continue to receive sporadic bursts of viruses and now spam on previously virus/spam free addresses. It's just a thought, and I coud be wrong, but it does seem strange that there has been an increase (for me at least) directly associated with Mydoom and a flow on effect with spam. I am still down on the levels pre the introduction of Xtra's virus and spam filters though, and I'm going to go back and check the filter setting. on my xtra accounts. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2004-03-25 00:03:00 | Good suggestion Susan - hadn't thought this would change (why would it really, as my login didn't). However I've just been and checked. You can't actually switch off SPAM filtering. I've changed my settings to move spam to another folder. This way I won't have to download them. I can't get Xtra to just delete the Spam as we are getting false positives. Cheers, Bill

2004-03-26 03:03:00 | I am on dialup and noticed a HUGE drop in the amount of spam after they implemented the spam filter, but have noticed of late that spam has increased dramatically, maybe it is a problem with there antispam provider. | Damon S (3588) | |
