224622 2004-03-23 12:58:00 hi,

when i go to burn a cd using nero it starts burning the cd and then when it gets to about 5% the cd burner spins faster and makes a high pitch beep (higher in pitch than bios but not as loud) and then the burn process fails, saying there is a power calibration error.

The burn light comes on for a bit and then goes of just before the beep.

Soemtimes cds will still burn, but if they do it is extremly slow.

It worked fine a fortnight ago.

um, it is an ATAPi 24x10x48 cd-writer. Part of a PC Company pc that i got 2 years ago.

Nero help suggests trying a different cd brand, or else it could need to be repaired.

oh, ive tried reinstalling nero, and its made no difference.

It has never read cds well so im thinking its just on its last legs and its going to die soon.

224623 2004-03-23 13:20:00 actually, it dosent always do the beep.

The buffer(the one with the green dot next to it) just drops off and the error comes up.

Nothing is ever getting burnt even though the red light comes on briefly.

Cheers

224624 2004-03-23 13:42:00 what happens if you set it to burn at 1X or 2X insted of 24X ?

slower burning needs less power.

this might only be a hint as to waht is wrong with the burner.

sound like its might be on the way out.
