224675 2004-03-23 22:13:00 My son has a laptop with Win XP. His problem is that when he boots up, the welcome screen has no user names there to log on with, can anyone suggest a solution? goldie145 (5436)
224676 2004-03-23 22:48:00 Hi goldie145,

Welcome to PressF1 :-)

He'll need to login as the Administrator account and re-create some user accounts.

When the Welcome Screen appears, hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice and you'll get switched to the Classic Login. From there, type in the username Administrator, and whatever you set your Administrator password to.

Hope this helps

224677 2004-03-24 20:46:00 Thanks for your reply, my son says he cannot remember setting up an administrator account, therefore has no idea of a password for it,would this have been done prior to purchase?
Is there a standard password?

Could be some thing like : administartor , oem , password
if you cant figuer it out, ring up the place where you got the computer and ask them.

224679 2004-03-24 21:39:00 If he cannot remember the password, then he's in trouble....

My only thoughts are booting from Knoppix and removing the SAM file to clear the password...

I cant see any other way past this otherwise....

224680 2004-03-24 22:09:00 If it asks for a password try just pressing Enter with the password field blank. If that doesn't work, get in touch with the dealer the laptop came from for advice. Susan B (19)
