225220 2004-03-25 23:25:00 During the huge storm Auckland had awhile back something happened to our printer. Well, from then on it wouldn't work - won't turn on at all (yes, I've checked the plugs).
It was on a zap catcher and everything... doh :)

It's an Epson Stylus C61, and only just over it's warranty period.
Anyone had this happen to them and know if it's fixable, or will I need to take it to the shop?

225221 2004-03-25 23:29:00 Have you tried connecting it without the zap catcher (just to rule it out as the problem) Davesdad (923)
225222 2004-03-25 23:30:00 I presume when you say it won't turn on at all, there are no lights, no sound, no nuffing?

I am not familiar with yours, but our printers have a fuse, yours might too and it may be RIP'ing.

225223 2004-03-25 23:30:00 thanks, that's a good suggestion... i will have to try that tonight. Mary H (769)

225225 2004-03-25 23:50:00 That happened to my printer many moons ago and the power pack had died. I was told that they are very sensitive so even with the zapcatcher yours might have had enough of a zap to kill it. Do you have another power pack that you could try it with?

BTW if it isn't the powerpack, don't let the fact that it is "just" out of warranty prevent you taking it back for a warranty claim - printers should last a lot longer than 12 months.

225226 2004-03-26 03:17:00 Of course, Epson might take the attitude that their power supply is rated to handle 230V rms, not lightning strikes. ;-)

Zap catchers don't last for ever either. The normal recomendation is to replace them after they have been "tested" once.
