2004-03-25 04:12:00 | Greetings, Ive been teaching my employer how to build PC's. Sadly, this is her first one, and it wont POST :-( We've removed everything (AGP Card, PCI Modem, HDD's, CD-Rom, Ram). The motherboard is a PC Chips M825LU, and I did one last night, so I've checked the Jumper settings etc and they look identical. Last night it worked... This PC wont though :-( Any idea's what might be wrong? I dont get anything on the screen, and I dont get any POST beeps to indicate we've screwed it. Many thanks Chill.

2004-03-25 04:27:00 | And the new job is lined up? ;-) Embarrassing, isn't it? "Nothing could go wrong ... a child of six could do it. Even a manager can do it"

2004-03-25 04:33:00 | Yeah, it powers on, CPU Fan works, CD-Rom ejects etc.... | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2004-03-25 04:44:00 | Ive taken out the CPU, so its just the PSU plugged into the mobo, as well as the monitor plugged into the Onboard graphics. Nothing :-( No display. The PSU powers up, and if I plug in a CD-Rom it goes... Should I rip another PC to bits and plug the CPU into another PC we have here, or will that just be rubbing salt in the wound? Graham> She did all the assembly ;-) Cheers Chill.

2004-03-25 05:02:00 | The POST is a programme run by the CPU. So no CPU, no POST. Is there a Reset button or jumper to be shorted? Sometimes this needs to be done to initialize all the MB logic. No beeps probably means that the POST isn't starting. When the power is supplied, the 5VSB is the only supply available, and the Power OK signal is false, which holds the CPU in reset mode. The power switch uses 5VSB to start the other supplies. That appears to be working (if the CD runs). When the supplies stabilize, Power OK goes high, taking the reset off the CPU, which should start the POST.

Here's a pic of the mobo: www.eagletec.nl I've changed the jumper so its in the right position. The PSU wont start unless you've changed the jumper. > No beeps probably means that the POST isn't starting. This I'd gathered... ;-) > When the power is supplied, the 5VSB is the only > supply available, and the Power OK signal is false, > which holds the CPU in reset mode. Thanks for your help guys, keep the ideas coming :-( Chill. |

2004-03-25 05:21:00 | Im wondering if its the CPU, motherboard, or both that have moved onto the nether-realm.... It does the same thing with or without the CPU in (Its back in now), which leads me to think CPU.... Thoughts? Chill.

2004-03-25 05:36:00 | have you tried hitting the reset button? also some boards require ram installed before they will post. with onboard graphics the ram must be installed in the correct slot.
