224969 2004-03-25 02:25:00 I have xtra for an isp and they have quite a cool spam filtering system.
Only problem is that there a quite a few false positives. For an example my searches on tradme which get emailed to me get marked as spam.
I would like the marked spam to be deleted at source but of course I cant with these false positives.
My question is why doesn't some computer savvy geek make an isp spam filter that deletes at source real spam. You could opt in, for your isp to filter out any spam from your inbox that had : penis, viagra, nigeria mortgage. as a subject or content
Ie you ask them to delete at source any emails with these subjects and send anything else marked spam to your deleted items box to check for false positives.
It would be good then as the isps could identify who these idiots are that actually want penis enlargement cream or are dumb enough to reply to nigeria letters. They could be publicly shamed. Perhaps a list of them with their email, physical address and photo could be put on the front page of the newspaper or something.
The main reason there is spam is because some idiots reply to it, no probs but we should know their names and where they live.

If someone wants to buy enlargement cream or send all their money to Nigeria, they are almost certainly sad/misguided/stupid, but name and shame? - that's going too far.

If you want a very effective spam filter, try SpamBayes from:

http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/

The price is right, and if you use MS Outlook, it comes as a plug-in that works directly with Outlook. Once I had it trained, the number of false positives and negatives dropped to very close to zero.
