225554 2004-03-28 01:55:00 Hi all.
I've just seen vodafones add in the Sunday paper today - advertising its new I-Mate Smartphones.
I'm liking the 'I-Mate Smartphone2"
Does anyone here own one?
Or used one?

And how does it work - i mean, u can surf the net and everyting on it - does this just uese GPRS? And do u just pay that rate (i forgot wot it is - 1c for 10kb sound write?)
Also - is it Vodafone live?
If not - can you still get all those fuctions - like can you check News and info and your emails?
O - and another thing - i see it has MSN messenger on there - so u can talk to ppl over that - would that just be over GPRS using that rate? If so - how much data would u receive when talking/typing to someone for about 2minutes
Thanks
ALex

225555 2004-03-28 05:48:00 I would imagine it used GPRS would be the vehicle of choice for data transfer.

Instant messaging usess very little bandwidth, for a normal text conversation I would say not more than a few kb or so - not sure exactly how one would measure this though.

Kind of ironic, cellphones have gone the full circle, from big briefcases down to phones you could lose in your wallet and are now starting to get bigger again.

Looks like rather a nice machine, get the feeling I'll be heading down to a Vodafone dealer for a play in the not too distand future..

225556 2004-03-28 06:35:00 Ok, Cool

Yeah - I'm liking it mainly cos its got all the basic PDA features (which is all i need).
I was looking at the SE T610 - but with this i can surf the net - not just WAP.

O - and its only $480 on a 36mnth contract - does that mean any contract?
Like could i just get the cheapest one?
And could you sell it to someone else b4 the 36mnths - if so - wot would happen?
Cheers

I use a Palm as my PDA of choice, purely due to the amount of software specifically related to my field available for it. Unfortunately for me, the Windows based PDA's etc haven't quite been around long enough to have the huge software range that Palm has - though for standard PDA style use they should be sweet.

Will depend on the promotion, sometimes they let you pick any, sometimes it's only a corporate plan etc.

If you sell inside the contract period either the person you are selling it to needs to take over your contract/plan and see it out, or you will most likely be charged a termination fee which will vary greatly depending how far through the plan you are etc.
