225892 2004-03-29 15:24:00 Hi
My sister just brought a canon multifunction center and I tried to install it on my computer which runs on win xp home
installed via the provided software
scanner function works fine but if i click print for a file a message saying no printer installed
went to control panel -->printers and faxes --> add printer
error message 'operation can not be completed' appears
uninstalled and reinstalled with no change
if I go control panel --> scanner and cameras --> add imaging device
the usual wizard appears but for printers it seems to be locked.
Any ideas short of reinstalling operating system on how I might fix this?

cheers

225893 2004-03-29 21:16:00 With Canon, you need to follow the instructions exactly. One step wrong and it won't work. May have to remove all the drivers/software and start again.

225894 2004-03-29 22:38:00 I concure with peter, especially with USB devices. Uninstall everything including drivers and follow the quick start sheet exactly. If you are daisy chaining with another device it might pay to try it by itself although, this should not be a problem.

225895 2004-03-29 22:44:00 one comman thing to forget is to install the drivers/software BEFORE plugging in the multifunction center. tweak'e (174)
225896 2004-03-30 01:37:00 It used to be so easy setting up a printer. You'd think technology was getting easier. I used to throw away the manual it was that easy but usb printers on xp systems is another story. dotcommander (4338)

that happened to me once, due to uninstalling a Lexmark printer driver, that consequently shut down some RPC service that is used to make the printers thing in control panel work. i had to re-install the lexmark thing, then uninstall it manually.

225898 2004-03-30 14:14:00 Hi
never had any printer installed on this computer so problem could have been there for a while
followed instructions on sheet to the letter
unistalled and reinstalled several times
tried several different usb ports
scanner works on all but won't even let me manually set up a printer
did a system restore to an early setup (1 week ) but made no difference

cheers

225899 2004-03-30 20:47:00 As it's new, maybe faulty - take back and get it checked. Or try on a different comp if possible.

225901 2004-04-02 05:13:00 So your sister might get to keep her printer? :D

Are you running an older version of Windows than your sister? It can be tricky to get a printer recognised on a USB port rather than a proper printer port. Dos doesn't like them at all. ;-)
