| 225657 | 2004-03-28 09:01:00 | I have two printers, a Canon BJC -210 and a Deskjet 670C, and an HP 5200C scanner. As these printers have low resolutions and are therefore unsuitable for printing photographs, I am looking to purchase a more suitable printer for this purpose. My options are to purchase a printer or to purchase a scanner/printer unit. or a printer and a scanner My HP 5200C has a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. Given that to produce good quality photos I understand you need resolution of 2400 x 1200dpi or better still 4800 x 1200dpi, if I purchase a printer that meets these resolution requirements will the quality of the photos be limited to the 600dpi of the scanner and therefore I should be looking to purchase a scanner/printer? If my best option is a scanner/printer due to my present scanner being inadequate, then I am puzzled by the scanner/printers I have seen advertised where the scanner dpi is significantly lower than the printers dpi. Would appreciate your comments/advice. Thanks & regards, Bruce |

In my experience you need a printer that prints at 300 dpi or more. Most of them do that. Some printers will get a lot higher. Think about total cost of ownership on printers as well. This will depend on what you want to do and what size you want to print at. My HP5550 will not print an A3 page for example. You might consider just using an A4 printer for most stuff. In the event you wanted an A3 or bigger you can always take a scanned image to a specialist in this field. |
