226180 2004-03-31 03:53:00 Do you have a firewall or an antivirus program with a firewall as part of it.

Check this first.
In Internet Explorer go to Tools\Internet Options
On the Connections tab select your ISP connection and press "Set
Default" make sure the "Always Dial My Default Connection" is selected.
then press "Apply" and OK

226181 2004-03-31 04:01:00 Thanks Jim B - but I have tried all those options (incl. uninstalling anti virus & firewall) - still no joy..... fnphoto (2434)
226182 2004-03-31 04:17:00 What firewall do you have.

It can still be a firewall problem even if you have uninstalled it.

226183 2004-03-31 04:21:00 Was only using XP firewall, which was good enough for my use. I know there are are far better ones out there ....but ...$$$ etc fnphoto (2434)
226184 2004-03-31 04:27:00 XP firewall would not cause this problem

It could be spyware, in particular one called new.net
If anyone has done any music downloading then this is a real possibility.
Check in Add/Remove programs for new.net and remove it if it is there.
It does not always show here so if it doesn't you could still have it.

If you have Spybot give that a run.

At the Prompt type in

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

226186 2004-03-31 05:17:00 I have run Spybot- Seach & Destroy and Lavasoft Ad Aware as I initially thought that could be the prob.
I will try the reset of TCP/IP tomorrow when I next have access to the machine.
Thanks very much for your help & time Jim.

also try running sfc the "run" area, you will need your install disk for this and several cups of coffee
