226009 2004-03-30 08:17:00 I upgraded to these drivers a few days ago, I think they are the newest as I was on the 56.56 drivers which caused my computer to crash for no reason when playing BF-Vietnam.

I upgraded to the Nvidia 56.64 Forceware drivers and it seems to have resolved some of the crashing/freezing problems in BF-V. But when I try playing videos (divx/dvd) on my computer its really dark and I can hardly make out anything in the video. Usually I always corrected the brightness settings in the Overlay options, but that option seems to be greyed out and I can't change anything!? :(

Can anyone confirm this is the same for them with these new drivers? Perhaps its a bug?? Any ideas? Running Win98se, GF4mx440.

226010 2004-03-30 10:53:00 i have the same card as you and have been using the 56.64 drivers for a couple weeks. i haven't had any problems with dvd, divx or games. although i don't have the game you mentioned.

i'm running XP sp1.

i got an idea about you not being able to adjust the brighness. in the geforce settings go to "color correction", and check that "color profile" is set to "standard". cause if it's set on advanced the brightness amd contrast are greyed out.

226011 2004-03-31 01:29:00 stick with the 41.09 drivers. they actually work. agent_24 (4330)
226012 2004-03-31 09:53:00 I'm using the new drivers in Battlefield Vietnam and no crashes here.
Try rolling back your drivers and playing BFV and see what happens. No crashes means a compatability problem. I downloaded my drivers from through the MSI liveupdate program so might be a slight difference.

226013 2004-04-01 01:03:00 The 5x.xx series drivers are badly broken for the GE4 cards.

I have gone back to the 45.23 drivers and the video overlay works, the brigthness / contrast etc.. works and the TV out looks realy good!

On the game front no probs with UT2004.

226014 2004-04-01 02:11:00 I've reverted back to the 53.04 drivers.

They work fine, video Overlay works (I can actually see my movies now), the games work with no crazy crashes!

Anyone watch stargate here? I managed to download the remaining ones in the series (6 episodes), and woah totally the best ever. Massive fight with the Goa'uld around earth, using all the ships. I can't believe they stopped showing the series before it was even finished. They will put them back on later in the year though. Idiots.

I even played Battlefield Vietnam last night with these drivers, it popped up a message saying they were old and unsupported and I might have performance problems... But on testing, the game does not crash like it does with the new ones, and the performance is actually better!!

The new ones for Win98 I think are stuffed. Definitely on my system they are stuffed.

Only problem with the 53.04 drivers, is that there are a few problems with WW3 Black Gold game I have (it goes a bit wonky), but other than that, I'll be staying with these old drivers, till Nvidia get their act together.

Thanks guys :)

226015 2004-04-01 02:19:00 Well I've just installed the 56.64 driver's and they seem to be quite stable. I played Bioware's trailer for Jade Empire and I don't think I've seen it rendered better under any of the previous driver versions than the 56.64 release.

However I will see how they do when I play Halo... I might come back with a diffeent review :o

cheers

226016 2004-04-02 22:48:00 There is a new version of these drivers out now. 56.72. Looks like quite a few ppl had probs with systems/games crashing. You may want to d/l the newer version of the drivers. See if it works a bit better. Spacemannz (808)
226017 2004-04-03 02:06:00 Yah thanks, but it doesn't look like they have produced the newer drivers for Win98 which I'm running atm.

Also a read of the release notes, it doesn't look like those drivers have corrected many freezes/lockup issues I've been having.

How would you go about informing nvidia or the game problems??
