225984 2004-03-30 05:15:00 First I heard of it is when I got home from school, my Dad said the computer was making funny beeping sounds, and would not work.
I tried it, and it started up after about 2 tries, and I got to windows, and then it reset. Then it worked ok. I was just mucking around seeing if all was ok, played a game for 5 minutes, and poof! Restarted.

Started again, try to go to pressf1, and Poof! again.

Turned it on, it said I had 32768 KB ram, and I have 256mb.

Now, turn it on, and nothing happens, no beep or anything. Hear a few whizzings of fans, but nothing at all displayes on screen.

What could it be? Could a dead harddrive do this? I just recently partitioned, but it has been fine for about a month untill now.

that means ur ram has dropped from 256mb to 32mb, right?

sounds like your ram could be screwed for no reason.

225986 2004-03-30 05:24:00 if your harddrive was dead, i think the computer would start normally and say boot failure or no harddrive detected or something. agent_24 (4330)
225987 2004-03-30 05:27:00 And if my RAM was screwed, would it not also start normally, and at least make a beep?

Oddly enough, it is going now, for how long, I do not know.

225988 2004-03-30 05:33:00 OUch. I ran memtest +, and it has done 1% of the test, and found 200 000 errors so far. Looks like its fried. mejobloggs (264)
225989 2004-03-30 05:39:00 This has happened on 2 computers now. They both have Wintec ram. Never heard of it. Must be some el cheapo stuff that the shop flogged off to us. Lucky we have a warranty. mejobloggs (264)
225990 2004-03-30 10:32:00 wonder how the ram got stuffed in the first place? random... maybe a fault on the motherboard that was killing the ram - i had the restarting problem with some ram once, but only cause one stick was single sided and one was double sided. agent_24 (4330)
225991 2004-03-31 03:31:00 If your Ram is on several cards, leave a card in slot1, remove the others & boot. Shut down & then replace the card with another. This way you can tell which one is faulty.
You may find that removing & replacing the cards may cure it.
