226334 2004-04-05 02:31:00 I have found Firestarter but havn't installed it. My Router blurb tells me that I don't need it.
Scanner does not work & refers me to Sane, will have to persevere with it.
Sound is installed but does'nt work.
Camera is a lost cause I think, as Aiptek have no Linux drivers for this model.
Opera 7.23 works better than Mozilla, has better Font control.
Cross over runs all the Microsoft Office including Front Page. Also Internet Explorer, but this has some problems with Fonts.
Couldn't get any other Windows progs to run on it.
I reckon that within the next 12 months Xandros-Cross over will be fully adaptable.

226335 2004-04-05 03:05:00 Try this:
Hit Alt + F2 to get the Run dialog box, then type:
konsole
Now type:
su -
[enter root password]
mkdir /camera
(This is where you plug you camera in)
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera
ls -R /camera

If you see the pics on your camera then its been successfully setup, and you can open up a file browser and cut/paste them from /camera to where-ever you please.
Then when you're done, type:
umount /camera
And you Camera will be ready for removal.

Otherwise, look into gphoto2

Try Firefox with xft for better fonts.

What windows apps are you trying to run under CxO? Tried it with the real WINE project?

Hope this helps

226338 2004-04-06 04:52:00 Wow!

Maybe I could leave MS behind.

Any chance of Photoshop for Linux, or does MS have a deathgrip around adobe aswell?

The gimp just aint the same.

226339 2004-04-06 10:58:00 Photoshop reportedly works fine under Wine. Not sure about Crossover Office Wine, but Google around and Im sure you'll find other Forums with users sharing stories.

226340 2004-04-08 09:01:00 I just installed it on a spare machine. Seeing the nvidia logo come up with X was a great change. Everything seems to have been detected fine without any help from me.

The software manager seems nice. I even found a GUI option to add the debian package sources.

But it still seems a bit rough. The firsttime wizard took ~30 seconds to refresh after every change. Basically making it unusable.
The filemanager (modified konqueror), is nice (in an XP rip off kind of way), but it stops responding when opening the network stuff.
And as mentioned in earlier posts, the mozilla interface fonts are far too small. I think its debian related because I have had the same problem on a pure debian install. But considering they package it as the main web browser it is a big problem.

226341 2004-04-08 11:46:00 Found a fix to the mozilla font problem:

- In your mozilla profile dir, $HOME/.mozilla/default/RANDOMSTUFF/chrome/ . Create a text file called "userChrome.css".
In it add the lines:
* {
font-size: 4.5mm !important;
}

And restart mozilla. Tweak the font size as needed (it can be in points if you prefer, eg 14pt).

I hope they include the fix in the official versions soon.

226342 2004-04-08 20:57:00 just to let you guys know that the Xandros Standard of Pc Autority doesnt have gcc.

to get gcc (to compile stuff)
open up a terminal

type apt-get update

then type apt-get install gcc

and there you have gcc.
