226665 2004-04-02 10:06:00 Lately I have been getting a message saying "Not Authorized to use this page'. This happen whenever I try to update programs I have downloaded and paid for. I am using windows xp home. I have used microsofts update cd to bring everything up to date, and I am the sole user of the computer.

Can anybody tell me what is happening?

Nor all of the programs do this only some of them, and it is always when I want to update. For example, I wanted to update Visitrax (A CD filing system). I get a free update for this as I am a paid subscriber. I can log onto the home page, but, when I click on download that message comes up "Not authorized to use this page"

226669 2004-04-02 11:08:00 Someone else (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) had this problem not long ago and we never found out if it got solved. :-( Fire-and-Ice (3910)
226670 2004-04-02 11:13:00 This can be caused by some type of web accelerator or download accelerator you may be using.
It could also be caused by adware/spyware causing a redirect.
Run Ad-Aware or Spybot to check for this.

226671 2004-04-02 11:24:00 So assumptively you've logged in at some stage to this site.

Do you know how the download is occurring? Is it via FTP or HTTP?

Microsoft released another 'security patch' where there was a fault with IE because it couldn't handle a standard method of authentication, rather than fix the fault, they have disabled it altogether.

It was quite a common method of referred authentication to log you into an FTP server or other restricted site using the following url format:
ftp://user:pass@ftpsite.xx.xx or http://user:pass@webpage.xx.xx

Perhaps give it a go with another browser like FireFox or Opera and see if it works. Alternatively have you considered contacting the sites support channels?

226672 2004-04-02 11:26:00 ^^ damned smileys messing stuff up

Should be ftp://user : pass@ftpsite.xx.xx etc - obviously with no spaces, just trying to trick the smileys.

Does not seem to be anything strange about it.
