226594 2004-04-01 23:42:00 I have a new (< 1 month) PC with Win XP, using Outlook Express 6 for mail and news. Yesterday it stopped displaying emails and usenet postings properly - although all of the headers are showing, the actual conents do not come up either in the preview pane or when I double-click on the message. Can anyone advise please? nzbrutie (5476)
226595 2004-04-02 00:50:00 Since your usenet messages are also blank which use plain text (this is correct?) it shouldn't be related to having OE set not to display HTML messages. Take a look at the settings under Tools > Options > Read anyway.

I did a search of this problem and there are a few different things which can cause this. One is spyware (in particular one called Searchxl) which also interfers with Internet Explorer and another is a trojan/virus.

Before you start thinking about trying a repair on OE, make sure your antivirus software definitions are fully updated and give the system a full scan. Also download and run Ad-aware 6 (free edition) (www.lavasoftusa.com) and/or Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) - having both is a good idea anyway as they each have strenghts and weaknesses.

If everything comes up clean, you may wish to try a repair on OE unless someone has a suggestion. :)

If you can then it might be a corrupted inbox folder.
