226545 2004-04-01 09:18:00 I bought a new puter from Warehouse Stationary $999.99 job, which has a cd burner running Sonic RecordNow 6.0.0 and was wondering, as I own Nero, can I install and use that instead? Or is it likely to cause problems, and best I stay with what is installed. The Nero I was using was on 98 and of course this one is running XP, so wasn't sure if i will cause more hassles than I know how to cope with. TIA supergran (108)
226546 2004-04-01 09:30:00 You can use any software burning tool yu like. However having too many installed sometimes interfers with each other.

I have found RecordNow to be not that hot as well. It wont record properly at high speeds yet Nero, CloneCD, Rioxio have no problem at full speed.

226547 2004-04-01 09:31:00 It is possible that the Nero you own will not even install especially if you got Nero as bundled with the CDWriter in the old (Win98) system.

Some OEM versions of Nero check the CDWriter firmware before install to ensure it is being installed on the same computer the original CDWriter was in.

As the CDWriter you have in the new machine is very likely different then Nero may not install.

Having said that why not try it and see. Versions of Easy CD Creator had problems with WinXP but I don't believe that Nero has the same issues.

If you have a full version of Nero then it should work with WinXP.

226548 2004-04-01 09:41:00 Ok guys, thanks, I just thought I would check here before I installed it, so guess when I get game over the weekend, I will see if it will install. LOL Wish me luck. supergran (108)
226549 2004-04-01 10:00:00 Good luck then.

I hope it works for you.

It's usually better to use the software you know. :-)

226550 2004-10-09 07:39:00 Hi Supergran, how did you get on with Nero.
Also have you installed SP2 and can you still burn audio to CD-R with no problems. I have a friend who cannot after installing the SP2., he has the same machine as you from the Warehouse.

226551 2004-10-09 09:45:00 Mine isn't a Warehouse Dell, but regardless of that, no I haven't installed SP2. I run a good firewall, and antivirus, so after the problems some people have had with SP2 I decided not to muck around with it, and to stay with the configuration I had. The same goes for installing Nero, I didn't! Am using RecordNow and have got pretty used to it. Still don't think it is as good as Nero, but thought I would wait until I was ready to reformat, then try Nero, and if it mucks things up, well, I will just reformat, and hey presto, no hassles.
Yea I know, I have lost that sense of adventure!!!!!!!! LOL

226552 2004-10-09 10:33:00 I have installed both SP2 and Nero and found no problems whatever.

As one of the previous posts said RecordNow has problems writing at high speed but it depends which version you use. Or rather which manufacturer. I had one with my sony that worked 100% all the time but another one that was made later and came with a different drive and labelled as such never ever worked at high speed. Always had to slow it right down. Nero has never failed to burn a CD or DVD yet. Not one coaster made for eons.
