226493 2004-04-01 06:39:00 Hello,

A freinds computer used to run wn 98 until Wn 2000 professional was
loaded onto it changing the system to NTFS.

However the specs of the machine, wont allow it to run properly,
and idealy it needs to be reverted back to WN 98.

Is it possible to format and revert it back to WN 98 and FAT 32.?

Many thanks,

Robby

226494 2004-04-01 06:41:00 short answer......yes tweak'e (174)
226495 2004-04-01 06:55:00 Fdisk and delete non-dos partition. restart.
Fdisk create new dos partition. restart.
Format

You can use a WinME/Win98 bootdisk from bootdisk.com (www.bootdisk.com) if you don't have one.

226497 2004-04-01 08:01:00 Yes, Partition Magic will do it, and without reformatting or loss of data.

ilikelinux didn't make that quite clear.

226499 2004-04-01 09:09:00 Partition Magic will convert a NTFS partition to FAT32 fine.

In this case though I was under the impression that the computer is not happy running Win2000 and therefore Win98 is going to be put back on instead of Win2000.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we are not talking about a dual boot Win98/Win2000 system here are we?

I would use a Win98 boot disk and FDISK the hard drive and create whatever partitions. Reboot off the floppy and format partition(s) created in this step.

Boot off Win98 CDRom and reinstall Win98.

This will lose all data from the hard drive so all documents etc need backing up first.

226500 2004-04-01 21:54:00 Hello Elephant,

Thanks for your imput, there is no dual boot, or partitions,
the specs are 5gb h/d 333mhz cpu, 128mb ram.

As you can see, specs are abosolute minimum to run 2000, and trying to open anything else is hopeless.

It had wn 98 previously, so I feel it's better to revert it back.

cheers,
