| 226756 | 2004-04-03 00:02:00 | In actual fact we are almost on the old Akatarawa fault line, which is the river bed. I thought it was pretty near, and it felt shallow, dont ask me why I thought that. I only really felt one jolt, the others seemed to be just sound, we have had stronger ones :) |

Five small earthquakes struck in quick succession overnight . They stared just after midnight with a jolt measuring 3 . 9 on the Richter Scale . Two stronger tremors, both measuring 4 . 6, followed just a few seconds apart . Two more came in the space of an hour, measuring 3 . 4 and 3 . 8 . The epicentre of the cluster was within five kilometres of Upper Hutt . Seismologist Martin Reyners says the quakes were recorded at a depth of 25 to 30 kilometres, which puts them on the Pacific Plate that dives underneath Wellington . He says that although he would not call them big earthquakes, they certainly made their presence felt, especially being close to an urban area . Susan B so there's no truth in the not tonight dear ...story as i have a headache???? :D and as i am of the opinion that the earth moves all the time...i just dont have the time to slow down and notice it.....:p it would have had to be pretty large for the hibernating beetle to feel it... which i definitly didnt....... i sleep well it seems. :D beetle |

It's a multi lane road that started way back before adam was a cowboy. Some people will like to tell you that there is a series of stranded beaches around the coast, each one depicting a time of high activity in the earths crust with the higher ones being older. Don't believe a word of it. It's actually a grand plan to provide coastal routes right around NZ. Just taking a bit longer to get the finishing touches built than we thought back in 1855. Mind you, it'll be faster than Transfund and Transit will ever be able to pull their collective fingers out. The little rumbles the other night were the beginnings of the Akatawara extension to River Rd in Upper Hutt through to Otaki. BTW, it's a very pleasant walk on the Welley to Wairarapa coastal Rd when there's a nice southerly zephyr plucking at the wave tops. Cheers Murray ;P |
