227084 2004-04-04 05:57:00 Hello every one

Does any one know of any Good free Bandwidth usage program (which has no ad-aware /spy were)???

At the moment I am using BWmeter, but it is about to expires in two days time

Hope some one can help me here? ?:|

PS: I am still on Jet Stream Starter (but not for long ;) hopefully)(but with a new ISP Xtra & lower Bandwidth cap 3 GB :(, that is why I am looking for another Bandwidth usage program)

227085 2004-04-04 06:00:00 You'd be wise to use the Telecom usage meter as that's the on you're billed off.

Relying on something on your machine could lead to some unpleasant bills.

A couple of weeks ago PoWa drew attention to the fact that the Telecom meter usage is higher, sometimes much higher, than a user's ISP meter. Are you able to shed some light on this please, WTF?

I have been keeping an eye on both and Telecom's meter definitely records higher usage than my ISP's which is a bit of a concern. I can limit my usage if necessary to keep under my cap but by the same token if my bill is going to be based on my ISP's meter then I can soon use more than what Telecom's meter indicates.

Your thoughts on this please?

Wouldn't base my usage on that thing if you paid me too.

Gee I feel sorry for those poor suckers on Surf and Jetstream plans. Jetstart you're relatively safe from the scam, as thats based on ISP usage. Doesn't mean your ISP is safe though, as they must pay to onsell some of the bandwidth.

I made a cool little c++ program (homepages.paradise.net.nz) that calculates what your usage will show up as on the Telecon usage meter. :^O

Compare that to your telecom usage meter and you'll prolly find its spot on.

227091 2004-04-06 00:39:00 Don't know of any free ones Stu. I have been trying out DU Meter which expires in 12 days then I will have to fork out $US19.95 if I want to keep it. Also tried BMExtreme which I didn't like as much as DUMeter but I don't know how much that costs.

So far, by keeping an eye on Telecon's meter I think I might be able to get away with not having a bandwidth meter to keep track of my usage as 3GB appears to be quite generous for my use so far. I will have to see how much I miss the meter once it is gone. :p

How on earth do you manage to use more than 3GB? :-)

227092 2004-04-11 14:56:00 It's no secret, but Telecom has offered with it's CDMA-1x mobile data services "Down2Home" for free on a CD. I don't know why this isn't offered to JetStream broadband customers as well, but it works great.

Down2Home has an easier interface than DUMeter (yes, even simplier!) - a giant graph that can be set any way you chose (2D, 3D, bar, line).

It's free, read about it or d/load it from here: home.tiscali.be

227093 2004-04-12 00:49:00 Heres a question...

Do those programs that measure the data downloaded, work only on one machine? At home I have two PC's networked thru a router. I would therefore have to run the program on both PC's and add them together to get my net total, right?

If I go into the web interface for the router it shows a summary of data for the current connection

sal.neoburn.net

So, if the connection began on the anniversary date of my account and was kept alive continually it should be accurate as far as my set-up is concerned (although it appears that Telecom calculates differently)?

I'm waiting for 256K at end of month :)
