227094 2004-04-12 12:02:00 Down2home monitors the host it is installed on. If you have 2 PCs then you'll need to install it on both.

I noticed a feature is "Logging of volume in database" so maybe if you have PC's and they can talk to each other / are networked, then maybe both can log to the same common database file, worth a crack - else just add up the totals from each PC ;)

In terms of your "rollover date" do yourself a favour and reset your router/modem at midnight, or sometime before hand. It creates a "stop" record that summarises your JetStream traffic up until that point, and a new record is created. Helps out your official Telecom JetStream Usage Meter @ www.telecom.co.nz to reflect usage from the midnight rollover time. Don't ask....

With Telecom counting higher than what your router stats show, I'll leave that for others to comment on...

227095 2004-04-12 13:21:00 When I was on Jetstart with Orcon, their usage figures always matched what my Telecom Usage Meter showed, over a year. For the last few weeks I've been on Surf 3gig and all appears to be quite accurate (based on my average usage by this time of the month) Greg S (201)
227096 2004-04-12 20:51:00 I was interested in this down to home product as a tracker for usage on telecom's mobile jetstream but as far as I can see after installing it, it only monitors the network card? I saw in the specs you can choose your network adaptor but I can't see where to do this.
Keen on any software that *solely* tracks usage over MJS using cellphone...otherwise you have to ring telecom to check your current usage - that is just such a modern way to do things (sarcasm, sorry).

I was the one that drew the attention to it due to the fact I was looking to go to the 256 plan but when I looked Telecoms meter said I used 21GB of data in 4 weeks . This was not just a one off but nearly all the time . Paradise however was recording around the 4-5GB per month mark . This is a 4-5 times difference .

Asked Telecom what was going on and they told me it was due to the different billing cycles . This was even though I told them that it was not .
They said for me to get the data for my current billing period and see what both said .

I did that . I was 3 weeks into a billing cycle and JetStream usage said I had used 17GB of data . Went and checked Paradises meter and it said I had used only 4GB . E-mailed this information with the proof of both meters and waited for an answer . It finally arrive 5 days later saying that they could not comment but their meter was correct and that I should take the issue up with Paradise .

Now I know I had not used 17GB of data even with all the overhead of TCP/UDP packets so there was not much else to do except take it and stay on the JetStart plan because if I had gone on the 256 plan I would be down to 64Kb within a week .

One of the ones I tried (either BMExtreme or DUMeter, can't remember which one now) allowed you to count the traffic on the network. I am sure it could be customised even further but that meant that the entire traffic, including sharing files, etc over the network was counted, not just the internet traffic. It almost gave me a heart attack to start with (before I RTFM :p) when the meter's reading went through the roof after transferring a folder full of pics. :p :D

> So, if the connection began on the anniversary date of my account and was kept alive continually it should be accurate as far as my set-up is concerned (although it appears that Telecom calculates differently)?

I have noticed that Telecom's billing period begins and ends a little earlier than my ISP's billing period which is where the discrepancy lies - in my case, anyway.

Greg, does your Telecom billing period match Orcon's? If not, how many days difference is there?

> I was the one that drew the attention to it

Now that you mention it I do remember your thread on that matter - sorry John.

> Asked Telecom what was going on and they told me it was due to the different billing cycles.

That applies to my situation. Telecom's cycle begins five or six days earlier than my ISP's so there is a couple of hundred MB difference between the totals. Your case sounds a pretty extreme though, I hope you manage to achieve a satisfactory outcome.

227101 2004-05-23 10:29:00 I know this post is a month old.

Since I made this post I have tried: Bwmeter & Traffic Calculator ( which has just expired on me today :(, at the moment I am trying Down2Home which unbiasedadventure suggested, but I am not liking it much as soon as I restart the computer ( Iam running win ME so I have to restart 2 a couple of time a day) the count restarts?!, does that sound right, for the people who used it, or is it install incorrectly?

Any other suggestion?, I might try DU Meter & BMExtreme soon…

> How on earth do you manage to use more than 3GB? :-)
Hmmm, I will tell ya via MSN or chat one day… lets just say forum surfing & website surfing, takes up a bit…

No, I don’t look at porn sits! Dad would kill me if I did!!!!! :_|, Iam telling the truth here.

Big John?? wouldnt this mean that they were charging you a couple of hundred extra dollars for going over your 10Gb limit on jetstart?????

227103 2004-05-24 00:59:00 I know this thread's getting on a bit, however I just checked my usage on the JS meter, and saw that in 7 seconds I apparently downloaded 1.06 and uploaded .7 , is this possible on a 256k connection? In my experience Jetsurf takes generally 30 secs for 1 meg to download.
