227079 2004-04-04 08:11:00 Slug in a new HDD, copy and ghost the stuff you want, over to that...

Then, killdisk the drive. Muahahaha, a use for zero-wiping your drive billyT.

227080 2004-04-04 08:19:00 Thanks for the suggestion Orion, but I don't really need to go that far, I can overwrite the affected drive completely with a current image file, but as I said in my previous post, my preference is to get rid of the unwanted partial image.

Cheers

Whenever I have a problem like this all I do is put the offending hard drive onto another computer as the 'D' drive and then using the other computers operating system to delete any unwanted files, including index.dat without going into dos or using a .bat file.

227083 2004-04-04 21:57:00 Well, I finally managed to kill the bugger late last night, but couldn't log on to post the good news. Was PF1 down, or just trapped in a vat of molasses?

Anyway, cutting to the chase, I went back to my DOS boot disk and this time I tried to delete the folder instead of the file. Naturally the folder refused to go as well, but when I checked the file status, to my surprise I found that it had disappeared into computer never-never land.

I have no idea how that happened.?:|

I got my 2GB of disk space back, and many thanks for all the suggestions, they gave me the incentive to press on.

Cheers
