1359625 2013-11-13 04:36:00 Outlook 2013 does not work properly with Gmail, switched back to Outlook 2010 and even that started to behave funny too! Clicking on any of the folders in Outlook 2010 take ages if the laptop is not connected to the internet, it works ok if it is on the net. Found a work around - click the "Work Offline" button, but you must remember to do that first before disconnecting the laptop from the internet. Apparently Outlook did not behave like this in the previous laptop, only with the new laptop and a fresh install of Outlook 2010. We have uninstalled Outlook 2013 but left the rest of the Office 2013 suite installed.

It used to be easy to sync Google Calendar with Outlook with Google Calendar Sync, but they have pulled the plug in Jan 2013 and it's no longer available (support.google.com). Google App Sync is the other option but not for free GMail users, it's only available for paying GoogleApps customers, and have had no luck getting it to work on a GoogleApps user's Win7 laptop.

Tried to find Android WiFi Sync Manager which worked quite well (global.mobileaction.com) but it is now off the market too! Grrrr. I suspect one of the Sync software company bought them and wiped it off the market. I might be able to extract the APK file from another phone, but the PC side software is only available from Download.com which has some malware wrapper around the installer.

Our Galaxy Note3s only work with Kies3 and not 2.x, but for some bizarre reason they have removed the Sync tab, and Samsung has no info on when they will restore this function!

Anyway, tried some work around with using Outlook.com Calendar.

1. Created an Outlook.com account, added this account to the Note3 and Outlook 2010
2. Added the Outlook.com calendar to S Planner on the phone
3. Added the Outlook.com calendar to Outlook 2010

That seems to work ok, but have to manually drag and drop ALL future appointments from the Outlook calendar into the Outlook.com calendar. Birthday reminders used to get inserted into the Outlook calendar automatically, but now need to be dragged over manually. Also have to be careful that we add appointments into the correct calendar when creating a new event. Adding a reminder to an appointment brought up an alert about not able to add reminder as the Calendar is in a read only folder, but some how it still works, the reminder did popped up as expected, weird. Anyone got any suggestion on how to get rid of the annoying alert about read only folder?

This sort of worked around the Calendar issue but then we have to sync the Contacts as well. When signing up for the Outlook.com account, if offered to link (or just import??) contacts from Gmail which worked as expected, but I think it's a one time import and not "link". I don't think Outlook2010 sync its contact with Outlook.com either. Found the open source program call GoogleSyncMod (http://googlesyncmod.sourceforge.net/), it seems to work ok.

Anyone got a more seamless way of syncing both Gmail calendar and contacts with Outlook without having to purchase CompanionLink or GSyncIt? Or does anyone recommend one of these programs?

Thanks Gary, good to know it still works if you can get your hands on a copy. I have found a few places with the installer on the net but don't know if I can trust them, ESET blocked some of the links. Finally found one on a GoogleDoc link (docs.google.com), downloaded it last night, will try it today and report back.

Also found this handy lists of all the different sync programs for Android ... http://www.syncdroid.net/

1359628 2013-11-14 01:33:00 Personally I wouldnt go near any gmail or google account, they read all your mail so they can target contents for advertising.....and imagine that is the reason behind the offline requirement now for outlook. SolMiester (139)
1359629 2013-11-14 02:15:00 Personally I wouldnt go near any gmail or google account, they read all your mail so they can target contents for advertising . . . . . and imagine that is the reason behind the offline requirement now for outlook .

I happen to like Gmail a lot, I don't really care if they scan email and serve up adverts, it is not like any human is reading them; I normally ignore the adverts anyway . The Google account integration in Android phone is brilliant, my recent migration from my Note2 to my Note3 took me less than 5 minutes . Pulled my 64GB mSD card out with 40GB of media and insert into Note3, insert SIM, log into my Gmail account, done . All my contacts are there pretty much instantly, all my media is there instantly because they are on the mSD card, all my Apps started downloading automatically . It was kind of magical . Well, there was a bit more setting up involved in some the apps afterwards, but I was pretty much running within minutes of unpacking the new phone .

Now that I managed to get the Google Calendar Sync installer again, we can now sync the Calendar between Outlook and our phones . It is very easy to share Calendar as well, so I see all the appointments in one calendar for both of us, on both our phones and Outlook, any appointments added to the phone while we are out are sync'd back into Outlook seamlessly .

Outlook . com Calendar is pretty easy to share as well, BUT to add the Outlook . com calendar to Outlook, you must first share your Calendar to the Public (aka the entire world, and apparently they can show up in web searches!) . I know which is far worse, and it is not Google scanning my stuff for adverts .

P . S . Gary - Yes, got Google Calendar Sync working again !

1359630 2013-11-14 02:23:00 Where did you find Google Calendar Sync from Gary? They have discontinued it and you now require a google apps sub to get it.

If you're currently using it it will keep working, but apparently it can't be downloaded anymore.

I really like a program called Sync2 by 4team.

I have the link in my previous post, but it is inserted into the word "link", the colour probably didn't show the link too clear ... docs.google.com

Wratterus, thanks for the link to Sync2, I will have a look at that too. I did put the link to Google Calendar Sync in my previous post but the colour for the word link probably didn't stand out ...
