1338273 2013-04-25 01:54:00 I'd agree with the statement, although when I read Gillies I thought they were referring to Giles, the British cartoonist. The way the segment was written was very reminiscent of hid work :p The Error Guy (14052)
1338274 2013-04-25 02:39:00 The old bugger is missing something out, the whole country struggled . People hardly had much disposable income until the 1950s wool boom. Being materialistic causes consumption and demand and this makes for growth in an economy.
People were not even poor and happy pre and post war just poor, everything was a hard grind. People are better off now than they have been. For ***** sake a refugee can come here be put in a state house given enough free money on a benefit to own a car a house filled with appliances.
However what most of these returned servicemen hate the most is non white immigration to NZ. I have never met an ex serviceman who has ever liked the idea of allowing non whites to settle here and I have spoken to hundred in pubs and RSAs.
But I guess thats best swept under the carpet their views count for **** ***

1338275 2013-04-25 06:56:00 You remember it well, Prefect? I remember the late 40's. Mum and Dad were poor but we had tons of love and we learned respect for our elders. What do some of you other older guys remember?
