OK Heres question -- What are YOU going to do when XP IS SO OUTDATED that the majority of sites wont load and current programs cant handle new technology OR if your Motherboard dies, and the newer hardware wont work with XP (its Happening already) ???? Saying W8 is crap and never bothered to learn or actually use it is plain arrogant. Windows 8 is not crap when a person learns how to use it. As I mentioned before its only crap to those who those who refuse to learn something new. A high % of people who think its crap have never used it, or are so bloody thick that they listen to others who have never bothered to use or learn it. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa follow the sheep or stick ya head in the sand and hope it goes away -- Not gonna happen. |

| 1359092 | 2013-11-08 07:19:00 | I have to use Win 8.1 at work every day and thankfully I can still use Win 7 at home which I find so much better, no accidentally ending up in a crazy unfriendly tiled kiddy interface (great for kindy kids or tablet users total waste of time on a desktop). I honestly don't understand why MS made 2 interfaces in one OS, they should have made 2 OS's and done the job properly. Win 8.1 feels so unfinished half the time. If this is the way MS are going to go long live Linux So set it up to W7 -- I had a person here the other day waiting while I did some work for him, told him to jump on the PC if he wanted ( pointing to a workshop PC on the other workbench), after about 30 minutes I was finished, he saw I had a W8 on the workbench where I was working on his lappie, and commented how he didn't like it ( even though he had never actually used it) -- he got a hell of a shock when I said he had been on windows 8.1 for the last 30 minutes :eek: I actually had to prove it was W8.1, he thought it was W7. |

| 1359093 | 2013-11-08 07:23:00 | I have but still occasionally end up in Kindy view, if it wasn't for that function I would consider upgrading, I consider MS has shot itself in the foot. They are actually clever enough to make this work as a dual mode so why not split them into 2 single modes it would make so much more sense as well as $ and be easier for them to upgrade each separately |

The biggest problems are some people often have made up their minds that something is bad to start with. The people I mentioned earlier ( in their late 70's) actually taught some of their younger family members some of the things I had shown them, and they were chuffed they knew more then the younger ones, they are willing to learn :D |

When my XP is broken I’ll address fixing it. Not before. At the rate MS produce new OS’s we’ll be up to Win 10 at least, and who knows they may be off the dope by then. Saying W8 is crap and never bothered to learn or actually use it is plain arrogant. I would say a car was crap too if I had to spray ether down the air cleaner to start it. Hardly arrogance old chap. | 1359098 | 2013-11-08 08:10:00 | Maybe you should practice what you preach next time you bag osx Get ya facts right -- I dont bag osx, its apple in general with the way they over price everything and say its the best. Sorry to say but they DO break down, and they are generally more expensive to repair. I chose not to use osx, I have used it, its OK , but I can take it or leave it. The person I was helping the other day with their MAC data, she was complaining at the price of a new MAC --- asked why they were so much more expensive than a windows comparison with the same amount of RAM, HDD and CPU -- Simple answer-- MACS are more expensive. |

| 1359099 | 2013-11-08 08:14:00 | Sorry BM but your answers have only proven what was posted about stuck in the past. I hope for your sake your computer doesn't fail anytime soon. Anyone can be taught if the teacher knows how and the person is willing to learn. Go ahead and put in classic shell, BUT remember its doesn't make it work exactly like a previous version, all the functions of W8 / 8.1 are still there and can be easily accessed, just hope you can figure out how to teach your friend what to do when it switches between interfaces.
