You will never hear a New Zealand crowd, anywhere, sing our national anthem with as much feeling as the Welsh do theirs. Shame you can't just acknowledge that. My response was directed at the players, not the crowd. The fervent patriotic mass singing is impressive, but the clip focused on the aforementioned Neanderthals and I don't retract that. Just as I wouldn't hesitate to call some of our ABs the same, and with some justification. I knew some of the North Harbour ABs in the late 90s and believe you me, they really deserved that description. You are right though, a national failing is we have no real sense of patriotism and at worst mumble our way through our anthem, at best have some singer warble their way through it in a language most of us don't understand let alone speak. :D |

How often does the word "entreat" come up in normal conversation? So why is it in our anthem? Funeral music has more spirit to it than our Anthem. As for the music - get rid of all those bleating, dreary brass instruments. Add a decent bass. But please, no rapping or scratching in the new version! |
