wouldnt Win2000 be windows ME with a NT kernel? c'n as they look the same and were realease and the same time? last time i checked WinXP looked nothing like WinME and behaved nothing like it. Windows XP is nice operating system, stable plus all the extra eye candy can be turned off, but as melta has said you do need a relatively powerful system to run it

come again? SATA is not alot faster than PATA. Yes it is faster but not all that much faster. It comes down to the fact that even though the interface is faster the device providing the data for the interface to move is still running at the same speed. Western Digital PATA drives with 8mb cache out preform standard SATA drives. But on the same note Western Digital Raptors which spin @ 10000rpm outpreform all drives (not including SCSI)

227653 2004-04-07 06:53:00 Pete. Win2k is NT with a more user friendly interface and a few more bells and whistles for the average user. XP is the next step along that road and is essentially an overhaul and update of 2k and therefore NT. Some people prefer 2k for it's more utilitarian function while, XP has been successful with more bells and whistles.

227654 2004-04-07 06:59:00 uhuh.... im aware of that murray. Hamstar is saying that WinXP is ME with an NT kernal, and im saying thats a load of $%$. Win2k is WinME with NT kernal. Pete O'Neil (250)

227657 2004-04-07 09:11:00 last time i checked SATA was only 150mb/s and thats only in bursts Pete O'Neil (250)
227658 2004-04-07 11:11:00 @Megaman, build a church.. then destroy it.. XP is the operating system of the devil.

WILLWILLWILLWILL - I would highly recommend getting windows 2000;
The most stable MS O/S money can buy

Not as many problems as XP as you don't have absolutely pointless sh*t like universal plug n play and all that crap installed by default and a ***** to uninstall... this can lead to instability and yet another hole for nasties to get in.

There are less holes in 2000 than XP, because/and most/all the holes in 2000 have probably been found and patched.

No matter what your hardware configuration, 2000 is still the best. If you got 4GHz and 4GB of RAM, sure you have enough to run XP, but that doesn't change the fact that 2000 still uses less

Most of all, XP uses features of TCPA! the consortium that want to control our computers remotely.

Therefore if you buy xp you are funding TCPA and telling TCPA that you think what they are doing is good (which it is not). Also you are funding ]:)SATAN]:)

So do yourself a favour and DO NOT buy XP today... or ever.
