| 227952 | 2004-04-08 00:41:00 | Main difference - SPEED USB 1.1 has a data transfer rate of just 12Mbit/s, this is painfully slow for such large bandwidth devices such as external hard drives and CD-RW drives. USB 2.0 (or high-speed USB), offers transfer rates of up to 480Mbit/s This puts it on fast par with the principal competition, 400Mbit/s IEEE 1394 (aka FireWire or I.Link) ports. You can also plug USB 1.1 devices into a USB 2.0 port (though you wont obtain the faster speed). It is not always clear under the system properties on the control panel (but might be a good place to look) on if your PC supports USB2 or not. Easier to check through the specs on the manufacturers website. |
