227937	2004-04-08 00:06:00	I have 80Gb Hard drive with two partitions, C & D. I have XP Home on C. I wish to install Win 98SE on D. When I start setup it says that I already have an OS on the disk and threatens to overwrite config.sys and auto exec.bat. I can see no option available to direct the install to D drive. Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated.	arjay (1202)
227938	2004-04-08 00:23:00	Pretty sure that W98se must go onto the 1st partition as it relies on DOS to boot . Once installed then put your XP on "D" . When you install XP make sure you tick the box where it says 'Let me decide which partition to install to' this being 'D', if 'D' is your 2nd partition . regards	BamBam (5462)
227939	2004-04-08 02:33:00	The problem is that you are going in the "wrong" direction. If you had W98 installed and wanted to add XP, you would be asked if you wish to multi-boot. But you can't easily go in the other direction, from newer to older. ;-)	Graham L (2)
227940	2004-04-08 07:20:00	You still should be able to do the job though: 1. Use something like Partition Magic to hide the existing OS partition. 2. Install Win 98 3. Boot from the XP CD and go into recovery console and restore the MBR. 4. Edit boot.ini for dual boot. Some more details may need to be provided if you decide to proceed?	JohnD (509)
227941	2004-04-08 07:28:00	You should be able to do it, if NTFS is not the format for C:, if it is, then the only option would be a bootloader and being able to store the MBR information on D: to start Win98. Apart from that, I think it's a bit difficult. You could however, transfer everything to D: and format C:, install Win98 and reinstall XP on D: it may work, it may not. Noel Nosivad.
