227819 2004-04-06 23:27:00 Hi all,

Yesterday afternoon, at work, I suddenly lost connection to the internet (using AVANT browser which uses iexplore.exe). After a while I tried using Firefox and was able to browse. Avant, however would not connect to anything.

Got home last night to be told that my daughter had connected to the internet in the early evening, but after 20-30 seconds it had gone dead and she couldn't access anything.

I tried again this morning from home, still without success. I then shut down Outpost firewall (which I use both at home and at work) and everything was fine.

Checking the application settings within Outpost showed that iexplore.exe was blocked. This was also the case on my work PC.

Has anybody else using outpost firewall suffered the same fate?

Is there some reason that outpost would automatically disallow a program?

Should I change firewall? I keep seeing PF1'ers recommending Sygate or Kerio.

Cheers

227820 2004-04-07 02:02:00 Have you updated IE lately, is windows update on auto? If the program changes then Outpost will not have a rule for it and depending on it's settings, will block it. Just modify the rule to allow it on port 80 usually. Another possibility is that something has attached itself to IE, do a Sybot/Adaware scan.

Outpost is fine. Was good to me anyway untill a win2k SP stuffed it. I would view it as a bonus of the software's function if it blocks IE completely :D.
