227716 2004-04-06 06:32:00 Hey,
I have a desktop with a cd burner and a laptop with a DVD player, I need to make a back up of a DVD to a cd-r (using some software) but as you can see the cd burner is on the desktop so is there any way to make it so i can use the burner on my laptop (with lan) ???? (using Nero 6)

227718 2004-04-06 07:25:00 but theres no way to burn straight to the burner over the network, by way of say, mapping the drive? hamstar (4)
227719 2004-04-06 07:35:00 Will maping work?
(like still have the side bar buttons to burn and stuff)

227721 2004-04-06 08:03:00 If you could fool it to allow burning over the network, you would probably only get coasters anyway.

The burner needs the file locally cached. It cant survive on the in-built buffer memory and the data transfer over the network is too lumpy. It would run out of data at critical times.

227724 2004-04-07 03:20:00 Why not? It worked fine for me. Just make sure you have good quality cables and you should be peachy!

Check each burn, you can set Nero to verify written data after each burn!

227725 2004-04-07 04:37:00 TCP handles error correction so file corruption won't be a problem. They probably use an additional layer of checksums too.

And for the delay caused by any resends, the burning portion of the program will be heavily caching the data (perhaps even the entire image).
