227917 2004-04-07 19:52:00 Restore for me has never been 100% successful for me but it has saved my bacon on occassions.
More often than not I would pick dates to go back to and all I would get is that "windows could not restore to that date" and then I would try again.
I would definitly turn off restore and then start again. You might as well the current restore points dont work.
If the computer is working ok now then try it in a couple of days. Make some insignificant changes then try and restore back to todays date.

227919 2004-04-08 04:10:00 hi ya,

tried again today and its still not restoring back in time, so have made a new restore point myself and will give a day and try again tomorow otherwise its start from scratch.

is there any likely hood of restore being faulty and if i blank it again - start from nothing i carry the fault forward and it happens again?

i have never before had any probs with restore in the past.
so this is a little frustrating, and confusing.

227920 2004-04-08 04:35:00 Hi Beetle, maybe you should consider buying a program like Norton Ghost. Ive used it on numerous occasions and its been a life saver on more than a few of them. Just a suggestion but in my book it is money well spent. :-)

227921 2004-04-08 05:16:00 Even if you find that system restore works again tomorrow I think I would still recommend that you delete all your previous restore points .

Right-click on My Computer, choose Properties>System Restore and put a tick in "Turn off system restore on all drives" . Close everything down, reboot then put the tick back in and create a new restore point .

After a few days check to see if it works again .

227923 2004-04-13 11:37:00 Ok wiped all previous restore points, had me panicked a bit after i did a reboot as it bypassed the welcome screen and went to desktop????

and all i had done was turn off the restore option????

so what happened there is anyones guess... didnt think it was supposed to work like that when restore was not running, and no restore point being changed to?

any way wiped them all and it set a new one and we will see what happens tomorow or day after and see if all is ok....

thanxs for the help people, and also the other info i found very useful in chinadoll's thread on system restore was good to.

that waiting game has begun again.....
