227886 2004-04-07 11:06:00 I was scanning an object when I suddenly got the dreaded blue screen with message saying memory files were being dumped and a countdown was taking place. While I was reading the probable causes(device driver file usually)this the countdown finished. I did reset and got back in Windows OK and then I ran my file utility for redundant files and found there are 53mb of memory files to be dumped to the recycle bin plus there were also a small amount of mini-dump files these 2 lots have dmp suffix. I have not yet deleted them. What I want to know is if diong so would cause any harm? Pete dinerouk (4690)
227887 2004-04-07 11:31:00 this is a windows debug thing.

when windows crashes ti writes all the data in ram to be stored on the hard drive, this means that some MS tech can look at what was in ram when the system went down.

its normal and i see no problem in deleteing all the dump files.

227888 2004-04-07 12:13:00 Thanks Robsonde. I thought with so much (53mb) I'd better ask. Pete dinerouk (4690)
227889 2004-04-07 12:21:00 DON'T READ THIS POST HAMSTAR, IT WILL BE INJURIOUSE TO YOUR EGO :D

De ja vu dinerouk. I've just booted out of win 2000 (didn't I say don't read it, nosey) and into Linux due to a memory dump (the Linux bit is choice) while playing Diablo 11 LOD expansion. Managed to catch a glimpse of the the driver that offended windows or Diablo as nvarn which I believe is nForce audio. The game has been locking from time to time so I now have a pointer to what it is. A fresh set of chipset drivers are in order I think.

There may be something useful in your logs to narrow down the culprit, if you've got the patience to trawl through all that data for a possible no result on a possible one off event. Good luck.

227890 2004-04-07 12:31:00 I just spent an hour with a w2000 machine that had the modem showing up in the device manager but not under modems in the control panel.

Infuriating.

227891 2004-04-07 13:32:00 I run xp. I have not had this before, but don't know whether it was due to scanner and my inexperience with it-I set unusual settings for this particular scan of a coin and didn't know what it would do as it's a new scanner, OR it's a newly downloaded programme 'PC Guardian', which I installed only this morning? 227892 2004-04-08 01:33:00 And if you send the report to MS make sure you weren't doing anything you would wish to be kept private when the dump occured. mikebartnz (21)
