| 228354 | 2004-04-09 14:04:00 | I will be buying a new computer as soon as I find one that I like, but I need to know what my old one is worth. I couldn't sell heaters to eskimos, so I need some advice. It is a Gateway G7. PIII 450 with 320 MB RAM, 12 GB hard disk, DVD ROM, 3.5 floppy, Acer 8x4x32 CD RW, 17" VDU, two empty drive bays one full hight 5 1/4 and one half hight 3 1/2. there are 4 or 5 expansion slots and a 56K modem, integrated SoundBlaster AudioPCI 64D, and a 16MB STB NVIDIA TNT AGPvideo card. Should I trade it in or sell it privately? |

| 228356 | 2004-04-09 21:26:00 | I've done a bit of trading with old comps for friends and I'd say robsonde's about right. I can ususally get something for people about 300 but not as fancy as yours. | mark c (247) | ||
| 228357 | 2004-04-09 21:28:00 | Because a lot of ppl really do just want to email and a bit off odd surfing. There really is a market for dungas. | mark c (247) | ||

That spec computer at Turners Auctions would go for about $180-$200, maybe even less. I bought some Compaq PII 450 Mhz slimlines no cd drive, with S700 17" monitors for $80 from Turners, that gives an indication of value. But having said all that, the final value is what someone is prepared to pay, who knows, a Joe Muggins may well come up with $600 :) |

I can get new computers assembled, etc. for $650+GST. I'm sorta in the same situation that you're in. For mine, P3 700Mhz, 17" 128mb ram, 6.4gb, internet kybd, scroll mouse, large speakers, standard everything else... I'm having trouble finding buyers in the $250-300 range... does have tiny problems i must admit, biggest one been space key on kybd is not as "alert" as it should be. If I was buying, I'd pay $375~ish for your one, seeing as new systems come so cheap these days.... Good luck with it, just hope Joe Bloggs comes paying $600 for it... :D |

| 228361 | 2004-04-10 07:54:00 | I 'd say around the $350 mark just as a non auction comparison I saw a Compaq celeron 700 in Cash converters today, 20 gig hard drive, 256 meg ram, 24 speed cdrw, monitor, cannon sp100 printer, monitor, licenced win me, usual compaq extras in primo condition for $399 with a 3 month warranty. OR you could cannabilse it. If your monitor is running well why dump it. Ditto for dvd. Keyboard, mouse speakers The cd writer is past it in any new system If you still use floppies keep that. A 12 gig hard drive is a useful size for a secondary hardrive in a new comp. Find a shop that will take your ram in exchange for ddr ram. Yes, a lot of places are happy to do that with double sided sd ram. They make on the deal with the price premium on double sided ram (they will want to test it). Sell remainder as a bundle on trade me Buy Duron 1600 or xp 2000 with msi/gigabyte/asus board and you would then just need a case, largish hard drive and new cd writer Near new system for roughly 425 minus anything you get for your old gear. Just a thought. :-) |
