2004-04-12 00:32:00 | I've got an old PII machine and Windows detected an ATM Network Controller card but could not find any matching driver. The following are all the serial numbers printed on the card: Efficient Network, INC LAN1 099-3500-001_A 980 H94A1J4W MAC: MAE01F2C1 IPC9191F2C1 SF1153 Assy 030-1540-001 REV EN60950 Now, what is this ATM Network Controller card? Is it a Network Interface Card? How do I find a driver for this card? Cheers

2004-04-12 00:39:00 | ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is a completely different protocol to Ethernet, (its faster, running at 155Mbps on Cat5, or up to 2.4Gbps over fiber). If you get a driver, it won't be of much use unless you have other ATM Card and switches... which aren't common. goto http://www.network-drivers.com/ and have a look around.... But in a sense, it is a network interface card.

2004-04-12 00:55:00 | Thanks, Growly. Of all the numbers available, which do you think is the model number of this card should I use to search for its driver? Cheers

2004-04-12 03:36:00 | > Efficient Network, INC > LAN1 > 099-3500-001_A > 980 H94A1J4W > > MAC: MAE01F2C1 IPC9191F2C1 > SF1153 > Assy 030-1540-001 REV > > EN60950 Well, I can gurantee that it isnt the one beside MAC . . . So I did a google search . Where abouts did you find this info? Often the brand doesn't end up helping, but the chipset does . . . (unless you already have, take a look at the card for an intergrated chip, and right the numbers down . . infact, take a look at the card and right ALL the numbers down - where you find the number will be the greatest indication of which one to use) And here, I dictate exactly what I did:------------------------ At . findchips . com/," target="_blank">www . findchips . com I tried some . . . . Tried 099-3500-001_A , no matches . Tried 980 H94A1J4W, no reasonable matches . Tried SF1153, no reasonable matches . Tried IPC9191F2C1, no matches . Tried 030-1540-001, no matches . Tried EN60950, no matches . I've tried google for some of those, not many returned matches . . . I took the "Efficient network, INC" to be the manufacturer and searched for it . . . Tried "Efficient Network Inc" driver, found a linux site with info . us . freebsd . org/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-current/xperimnt/ALTQ/" target="_blank">ftp6 . us . freebsd . org On the second page, it told me that another name for the company was ENI (amongst lots of descriptions of what appears very much to be the card you have, "155Mbps ATM" etc) . This may prove interesting: . dante . net/ten-34/DELIVERABLES/D11 . 2/D11 . 2 . doc" target="_blank">www . dante . net Ok then somewhere tells me that the company URL is http://www . efficient . com and whoa and be tide, it's the siemens website . Now I'm confused . Still confused, I went to their knowledge base to try and get drivers . They appear to have an "Efficient" line . -- > . efficient . com/subscriber_networks/support . shtml#" target="_blank">www . efficient . com Searching, using all keywords, for ATM, it came up with a product list . The SF1153 Seemed to fit in with their naming scheme, so I searched it . . to no avail . I'm sure this is from Siemens because of; There adapter line is the 1000 series (SF1153) They keep mentioning "Efficient networks" (as in a model) but these could be coincidence . RIGHT: I know that Siemens and Effecient Network Inc are related . . . but I'm guessing SF1153 is not the model number . SO I WENT TO DRIVERGUIDE . COM (logged in with user: driver and pass: all) AND WHADYA KNOW? ITS "A siemens company"!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------- SO . . . . Well after all of that (which probably didn't help) . . . I have come to the conclusion that the model number you seek is hidden, and that http://www . driverguide . com doesn't have it . I have reached also the conlclusion that "Efficient Networks, Inc" Has a very well hidden webpage, if at all . Siemens don't have numbers that correspond to anything up there (except the broad numbers, like 1) . So close . . . .

2004-04-12 03:42:00 | Ok, I'll summarise that. As far as I can tell the actual drivers are not easily reached. Though we can keep trying, I suggest you find the chipset and search for that, often it yields drivers that can do likewise. I'll keep looking for you...

2004-04-12 06:47:00 | Thank you so much, Growly . I really appreciate it for all the time and effort you've put in . Those are all the numbers available on the card, on the pcb, chips, etc . Have spent about an hour or two on the net searching but produced no positive results . This old monster was given to me by a friend of mine from overseas . I belief it's for his home use but why he put in an ATM controller card? Or maybe, Windows detected it wrongly? It might be just an ordinary NIC card?? Maybe I should try to load a generic NIC driver and see how it goes??? Cheers

2004-04-12 07:29:00 | No trouble man, This is interesting: www.hoovers.com Apparently the 3500 series are switches... It could be a normal lan card, but I somehow doubt it. "Efficient Network Inc" apparently dealt only with DSL and ATM... but it's worth a shot. If that doesn't work: Now THIS is VERY interesting. Go to http://www .efficient.com/subscriber_networks/support.shtml# Click the link under "Drivers and firmware". When the window pops up, select "Search" from the top left. In the search diaglogue, search "Natrual Language" for ATM Card. This will give you all the Efficient Network Inc card models and their corresponding Siemens new model numbers. Better yet, click this: kb.efficient.com OK that didn't help. But it does show us that they've changed the model numbers and what you currently have is probably very outdated. Send 'em an email. Tell them all the numbers you know, that it was an Old ATM card, and that you can't find drivers for it. Ask for the equivalent's model number, or for them to tell you where to get the drives. Sorry I couldnt help more, I will keep looking...
