228710 2004-04-11 22:46:00 Im trying to find a Usb to Ide/Atapi driver for windows 98se for my cd writer.

I tried using the disk and when i try to open the setup file from the floopy it says copy error.Copy error messages comes up 4 times after clicking ok and then it says the usb storage driver has been successfully installed. When i go to add/remove program to remove it .It says that an error has a occured. It may have been uninstalled.Would you like to remove the storage driver from the list.

Anyidea how i can fix this problem?

I think i found the driver for it but after downloading the driver.there's no setup file.It just a list of files. What am I suppose to do with it?
The readme file doesnt say what i should do?

228712 2004-04-11 22:59:00 i take it you have an external cd writer.

what brand and model is it ?

228713 2004-04-11 23:10:00 Its suppose to be an internal cd writer. But its been modified and now a external. Its an A open 4348 cd writer however according to my dad.My dad did something to the firmware and now the computer detects it as a aopen 4048 cd writer. It was working quite a while ago.For some reason those errors are coming up
And now the cdwriter won't even eject the cd tray although the fan and power comes on.No response from the eject button on the cd writer

228714 2004-04-11 23:12:00 so what usb to ide converter are you useing? tweak'e (174)
228715 2004-04-11 23:27:00 mind you if the cd drive can't eject the tray (with no ide connected) then its either jammed or stuffed. open it manually and check nothing is jammed in it. tweak'e (174)
228716 2004-04-11 23:30:00 I dunno what kind of usb to ide driver it is using. It only says usb to ide on the floopy disk cover. There's no readme file either in there.
There's no cd in the cd writer i don't think. What causes it to be jammed?

228717 2004-04-11 23:32:00 CAn u recommend me a usb to ide driver?it doesn't have to be the same company as the one came with the floopy disk right? yingxuan (3330)
228718 2004-04-12 13:06:00 is there a inf/ini file on that floppy disk if so try the install new hardware wizard, say you have disk and of course put the floopy disk in, then point the wizard at a:\ drive, it should then reconise the ini/inf file and install the drivers

GOOD LUCK

228719 2004-04-12 13:23:00 can i draw your attention to what Tweak has already noted, the cd draw should eject as long as there is a power source, irrelivent of drivers, ide, usb, anything else,as long as power is there and the drive is in a working condition then it should eject.

Complete and utter waste of time going futher untill you get this issue sorted, the drive i would guess has reached the end of its life,no doubt helped along by having the from firmware.
