2004-04-11 22:13:00 | I'm sure PC World did do an article on Weta Workshops last year, and talked about the use of Linux clusters for rendering etc. | somebody (208) | |

2004-04-12 09:07:00 | i agree with most of what metla has said. my biggest glitch with linux is simply that there is a lot of effort gone into 10 apps that do the same job and none do it fully. there is simply to much choice. windows is bad enough for having 2-3 ways of doing the same thing but linux is worse. its hell confusing when you have a big bunch of apps that all do similer jobs. like do i really need 3 file mangers and 5 text editors ?? the other thing is a generic problem of open source.......theres simply to many cooks in the kitchen. you can have the same program complied and released by 4 different people and each program is slightly different. there is little structure or control on the work thats done. wouldn't it be better to have the 4 work together and make 1 good program?

2004-04-12 12:44:00 | I suspect you are right there | mikebartnz (21) | |
2004-04-12 12:53:00 | You realy do show that you are a Windows man. Everyone has a different way of doing something and Linux allows that. A lot of the time within Windows I find it quicker to write a short batch file to achieve something than run around the GUI | mikebartnz (21) | |
2004-04-12 12:56:00 | Won't argue but it is Linux throughout | mikebartnz (21) | |
2004-04-12 13:02:00 | >wouldn't it be better to have the 4 work together and make 1 good program? The same could be said for windows. When it comes to graphics I usually end up using about three programs to achieve what I want. In my opinion WP runs rings around Word but there are some features in Word that I do like but not enough to make me change.

2004-04-12 23:14:00 | Mike, could you be a sweetie and quote the post that you are responding to so that people like me who are using the flat view mode with thread map off can figure out who you are replying to, please? In flat view this (www.mscandy.orcon.net.nz) is how your replies look. :D Most (all?) people I know use flat view mode and as you can see, it is impossible to see who you are replying to without going and changing the settings to threaded mode. That is where the "quote original" option becomes your (well, OK then, mine :p) best friend. :-) Thanks! :-)
