They may be running, but not with full staff = much longer queues.

But I cant complain, the phone line technician came today...

A hold time of ~2 hours seems ridiculously long even for Xtra. Are you sure it was that long? I know people on hold are great at overstating the length of time they've held for, people are very quick to claim they've been on hold for 20 mins when it's been less then 3 minutes.

Why bother ringing Xtra to get JetStream enabled anyway, just ring Telecom on 123 and get it arranged that way, it's faster than getting the ISP to arrange it.

228404 2004-04-11 02:30:00 Yep, looked like a dns problem, should be fixed after I reboot.

thanks for the help!

228405 2004-04-11 03:34:00 Even with the DNS set to the thing's USB IP, it didnt work, so i put the ethernet one in and it was fine... ?! Growly (6)
228406 2004-04-11 04:50:00 Trust me,i played 2 hour long games of AOE as i waited for the phone to be answered.

My phone line was tied up for a total of 4 hours, during which time no customers could ring me.

228408 2004-04-11 05:00:00 Hi WTF

I'm not growly!

Turns out you have to ask questions in your most dumb blonde voice otherwise people assume you know stuff you don't. Quite how I was to know the DNS settings I was given beats me but I've got them now.

My ethernet problem was solved by swapping the cable. Don't know what was wrong with the one they shipped but it didn't work. How many hours would someone lose trying to sort that out if they didn't have a pile of spare cables lying around (couldn't tell you what half of them do anymore).

So, it was basically a DNS problem as first suggested.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Sarah

228409 2004-04-11 06:16:00 Metla: Why don't you order your Jetstream online on Telecom's site? On their homepage on the left under Jetstream click on "Order online". You get to tell them who your ISP is so you don't need to be with Xtra to order by that method.

It is what I did. :-)

228410 2004-04-11 13:00:00 Metla, don't bother with Xtra. Go with a reliable ISP like paradise and sort out the connection and stuff through telecon. PoWa (203)
