2004-04-12 04:40:00 | I have recently built a new machine and decided to splash out and use an LCD flat screen. I also installed XP Pro, having been a longtime 98SE user. When I go into the internet, the web sites come up as predominately white background with text showing but most of the graphic items missing.(borders, backgrounds, etc.) I am not familiar enough with the XP settings to go digging, but suspect that there are browser settings that need to be tweaked to allow all the content display. Could someone tell the route to find them. I am using the IE6 that installed with XP. I have fully updated the system. The CMV brand LCD screen had no specific driver on the supplied CD, (in fact the CD had no useful software on it at all), it was all hype. XP tells me a CRT screen is installed and I can't find any reference to LCD screens anywhere. Added to this, I can't access my banking website as there appears to be a security setting that is incorrect. Again, finding it hard to dig deeply into XP as it seems to be hellbent on not allowing one finetune their system. Would appreciate any comments without starting a war on the relative merits of o/s's. That's already been done to death and I'm determined to take progress by the throat and shake **** out of it! Type in the address of the site and click allow

2004-04-12 05:16:00 | Firstly, welcome to PressF1 Spr_bro. It sounds like your problem has something to do with Internet Explorer security settings, which can be found in Tools-Internet Options. Also, scroll down the "Advanced" list and look for anything which refers to Images etc. Note that your problem has nothing to do with what screen you have, or it's drivers. You can actually set Windows to use it's generic driver for LCD screens, but it probably won't make much difference.

2004-04-12 10:41:00 | Thanks Davesdad, Did that, but the problem is I am able to access the banking homesite but the login link beeps at me and comes up with an error message. Works OK on my 98SE machine so I still have access. Used to work when I first set this up but somewhere I've lost it. The main problem is I don't know what I've lost, so I can't fix it.

2004-04-12 10:51:00 | Thanks, Somebody, for your kind welcome. First use of this forum for some years so it is a very belated return. Can't remember what username I used tho. Figured the browser may be the problem but I may have tweaked XP somewhere and caused the problem. Difficult to remove the IE browser and reinstall it. Considering a complete reinstall but don't want to jeopardize my data disks/partitioning info. Not sure if they are stored on the C: drive or not. Have a second 80Gb HDD partitioned into 4 x 20Gb drives for data storage. C: is a 40Gb unpartitioned at this point.

Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore 2. Have a play around with the various settings in the IE Internet Options panel, and see if anything helps. It won't hurt to try. |

2004-04-12 22:26:00 | Internet Explorers help suggests, under repair, that if you have problems that you can't resolve, IE should be uninstalled using Add/Remove programs and reinstalled. IE 6 sp1 is on the PC World cover disk. | Davesdad (923) | |
2004-04-13 19:54:00 | I maybe able to help with the first part >the web sites come up as predominately white background with text showing but most of the graphic items missing look in Control Panel... Accessibility Option... Display tab and see if there is a tick in high contrast if so take it out

2004-04-13 21:21:00 | Beama, You b****y beauty!!! Instant fix! Although I'm starting to like XP!??!??, I get frustrated when things are so buried there is no logical way of finding them. Only the constant users out there seem to be the best source of info. Top marks to this forum!!

2004-04-13 21:26:00 | Davesdad, Tried that, but for some reason IE6 is not showing as an option to remove. I used to remove earlier versions of it when installing 98SE and reinstalling Ver 6 etc, but XP Pro doesn't seem to want to give one that option. Thanks anyway. Beama covered the main frustration. Now to see if my banking will let me in. Guess the security and certificates is the next project to sort out.
