228565 2004-04-11 05:59:00 Hello to the group.

I have so far spent most of my Easter break struggling to come to terms with writing to CD's (CD-R and CD-R/W). I have searched FAQ's on the site and also Press F1 and it is obvious that this is not an uncommon problem. There are 2 computers in the house and they are Networked. The old PC (a hybrid running Win 98) has Nero Express (for CD-R) and Nero InCD (for CD-R/W)
The new PC (a Dell running Win XP) has Roxios Direct CD (for CD-R) and Easy CD Creator (for CD-R/W). Needless to say they are not compatible, so I decided to go with Nero, and de-activated Roxio. However I am still having problems (especially with trying to eject the CD) and with Windows Installer popping up trying to install Easy CD. I would be delighted if someone could tell me how to stop this happening. All help much appreciated. KB.

228566 2004-04-11 07:02:00 What do you mean by not compatable? Provided they are on separate computers there should be no interaction. Being on a network shouldn't make a difference either so you'll have to explain your problem in more detail.

Cheers

228567 2004-04-11 08:10:00 G'day, Billy T - my PCs are networked, but things aren't working all that well - another issue! However, to CDs. I formatted a CD on Nero InCD on the Win 98 PC. Put it in the CD drive on the Win XP m/c and did a backup. Removed it to check on the Win 98 PC - all OK. Put it back in the Win XP m/c again and the disk was apparently empty (it wasn't) When I right click on the Drive D icon (the CD drive) my PC tries to load Easy CD. I think this is a Win XP problem. Put the CD back in the Win 98 PC, up pops the InCD box and all is OK again. KB. kbcad (1025)
228568 2004-04-11 08:13:00 The ejection problem is most likely that you do not have Nero's Incd running.

And the compatibility problem BillyT is that Nero uses a different form of packet writing to Adaptec for CDRW. Which means you have to have the program on the computer you are running.

As for getting rid of adaptec/roxio read here (club.cdfreaks.com) and it doesn't look good.

Many thanks for your advice. I visited the site you recommended and was amazed at the size of the compatability issues. I decided that I am not game to play around with the Registery (I might lose my Roxio Go Back). Will think about the issues for a while. Thanks again. KB
