228391 2004-04-10 11:04:00 We just got jetstart installed but being Easter there's the bare minimum of support available.

I've just managed to get the connection working on the console. That was trickier than I expected. I've got an IP address and the status is "Connected" written in green. That should mean all is OK.

However when I try to call up a site I can't get through. I'm using a USB connection currently (but plan to change to ethernet).

Any ideas what might be going wrong?

228392 2004-04-10 12:57:00 Please answer the following:-
What OS are you using?
What is the "Gateway" of the modem/router?
What ISP are you connected to?
What Fire wall are you using?
Have you fitted filters to your line?
Is it on Dial-up or direct?

USB is sad news, I had a DSL-200 and it was erratic on usb.
If your computer hasn't got an Ethernet get a card adaptor from Dick Smiths, they are only $16 at the moment.

228393 2004-04-10 12:58:00 Perhaps you haven't set the DNS settings in Network Neighbourhood Correctly. I suggest you check this as even a minute error in these settings will mean you cannot access web page.

Hope this helps

Why? Most ISP helpdesks are running normal hours over the break as far as I know, hell I have to work .

Try putting an IP address into your web browser like this:
http://210 . 48 . 100 . 45 - that should take you to this site .

If that is the case, you are missing the DNS servers in either your PC's or modems configuration .

You could also try the following:
Start -- > Run -- > Command

To ping this forum:
ping 210 . 48 . 100 . 45

Then try pinging Google:
ping www . google . com

See which one works .

228395 2004-04-10 13:45:00 I was on hold for 2 hours with xtra, trying to find out when my line would be enabled.

when i was told upto 2 weeks i told them that was pathetic (without being abusive mind you) and that they could either bring the date foward or cancel my request.

The pleasent youngster on the other end of the line then replied "ok sir, your order has been cencelled, thank you for contacting xtra"

bugger.

Then i had to ring back,go on hold for another 2 hours and ask that my line be enabled,at which time they put be at the back of the que.

3 weeks to go now.

228397 2004-04-10 23:33:00 Hi Mzee

I'm using USB just to prove the connection before tackling ethernet via a hub (ie ethernet didn't work first time round so thought I'd take the "easy option")

So, I have 3 x win2k PC's. No plans to upgrade to XP, I like 2k
Using a Dlink DSL-302G "modem" but it's ethernet enabled.
ISP is Maxnet
No firewall - Yet, supposedly one inbuilt to the modem. Have Tiny on 2 of the PCs
Filters on the line, need it to get the adsl cable to work
I imagine it's on direct, you plug it in and the adsl light goes straight on. I tested it on the other line and it was dead as a dodo.

Oh, yeah, and I booked JetStart on Tuesday, installed on Sat. I'm happy with that.

228398 2004-04-11 00:58:00 hmmmm......You would think with a profit of 500m a year they would be able to answer the phone in less then 2 hours, and enable the line in under 3 weeks.

heck,if i had a profit of a million a year i would be personally delivering peoples hardware by private jet, minutes after they rang.....

Did you enter your username and password details? The ADSL link will come up straight away, but you still need to enter a user and pass to establish the PPP session over the top which gets you your internet access.

228400 2004-04-11 01:40:00 I was setting up a neighbour's connection and had the exact same problem. Everything was connected, PPP established, etc etc, network setting just dandy - that didn't take long.

But in hindsight, it must've been the DNS settings. I'm used to a router, so normally (when allocating static) I go straight ahead and use the ISP DNS Servers (Xtra: 202.27.184.3 and 202.27.184.5), silly me. So i use the Modem's IP address DNS Server then?Makes sense - *Smacks head*
