| 229062 | 2004-04-13 13:58:00 | I think we all probably remember the headlines a few months back (and the mail some of us received) about the Skippy company sending out what appeared to be an invoice for a domain name renewal but was a con to get people to buy the .net extension. Anyhow at the time those set up to monitor such activities stated that nobody had fallen for it and that domain registrations hadnt risen in the weeks after the mail out (think there might have been 3 mail-outs, I remember getting the crap more then once), now they state that 2500 people had been sucked in and sent away $500 000 worth of payment, and that the commission had effectively cancelled the transactions at the bank. www.nzherald.co.nz headline is Watchdog rescues Kiwis from domain name scam |
