229036 2004-04-13 09:56:00 I use Mozilla for email and surfing... where does it store the temporary files? IE has Temporary Internet Files, what does Mozilla have?

Thanks Dave

229037 2004-04-13 10:27:00 On my Linux PC it stores cache under:

/home/johnd/.mozilla/default/ngyfy76p.slt/Cache

- might help you figure out the Windows location?

Settings are under Edit->Preferences->advanced->cache

229038 2004-04-13 10:39:00 im lost as to your reply John D.

as to find my Cache ....well maybe not the final spot, or actual spot on comp.

but to check i go Tools > options> Privacy, but this does not give me a physical spot or list of these thingy's?

is this not what you mean? as otherwise i would be interested to know as well.

as i dont have a list like yours on edit.

Edit > preferences is not there on mine, but i am running Mozilla Firebird.

does that change it????

must do! I use Mozilla 1.4 at home (under Linux) and 1.6 at work under XP (Edit -> preferences is true for both).

229040 2004-04-13 10:57:00 oh well i have version 0.7 of MF. running on XP.

and it comes up in tools etc, but i dont have any further idea how to find where they hide and what it holds etc, from there.

but one thing it says is the size it holds or is allocated to it....

50000 KB is this usual?

229041 2004-04-13 10:59:00 Dave - for Mozilla enter in your browser address bar:
about:cacheThis will tell you the location and other details.

229042 2004-04-13 11:00:00 Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Cache will show the location of the cache folder

It will be something like this unless you have changed it.

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\ SomeStringOfLettersAndNumbers.slt\Cache
Jim B (153)
229043 2004-04-13 11:04:00 In the address field (where you would put a site adrress) type about:config and press enter... you will get your current Mozilla (Mozilla Firefox) configuration. This shows you most of the configurable options (used with user.js and prefs.js files) the cache is pointed to by browser.cache.disk.parent_directory. Within Windows XP your Mozilla/Phoenix(firefox) settings are under

%SystemDevice%\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Application Data\Phoenix (or Mozilla)\Profiles\%Username% (or Default)\{some_number}.slt

then look for prefs and user js files. The cache is often (by default) under the same directory/subdirectory tree. You can change the location of the cache file by editiong (or creating) the file user.js (its just a text file) and adding (or modifying) the line

user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory","MYDRIVE:\\MYDIR\\PheonixCache");

(the semi-colon at the end of the line is required) which would then put the browser cache under the directory \MYDIR\PheonixCache on the physical drive MYDRIVE. After editing the .js file(s) you must restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

Cheers, Babe.

My defaults are 4096kbytes of memory cache and 50,000kbytes of disk cache.

229045 2004-04-13 11:06:00 Hmmm JenC beat me to it and precisely gave the cache location and sizes by using about:cache

Oh well...
