If Paint is there, it has been loaded from the CD and it's the same identical lot of code that everyone else has. ;-) That's because the compressed .CAB files work. The decompressor needs a perfect file. CRC code and error detection and correction on CDs makes sure that the installer gets a correct .CAB file, or an error condition.
Is the video "card" on the motherboard? Does this happen if you select the sub-menu with no picture in Paint, before doing anything else? |

Yes - included with the XP disc that came with the computer. |

I'm sorry, but I don't understand most of your answer, however, to answer the question, the fault happens whether or not I go to the sub-menu before having a picture or opening an existing (.bmp) file. |
