2004-04-14 10:56:00 | i have recently switched from Jetstarter to Jetsurf, so basically gone from 128k to 256k However i don't think i am getting 256k worth. For instance when downloading with that speed test from jetstream games i am getting around 132kbits on the meter, Right now i'm downloading the 9MB binary file and the internet expolrer is telling me its downloading at 16KB a second, shouldn't this be more like 32? Interestingly enough this 16KB i am getting on http is the same as what i am getting on P2P, and i thought P2P was restricted, or have they just decided to go and restrict my whol experience!? On top of that i keep getting these outages of around 2 minutes and they happen at random, the lines doesn't disconnect the net just stops, i've spoken to telecom about it and they know its an issue but don't know how to fix it!!!! (i never had any of these problems on jetstarter) So what do you guys think?

2004-04-14 13:57:00 | That 132k speed sounds odd. Is it possible your modem is configured incorrectly? I believe that some ISP's allow you to run different modes, eg g.lite, g.dmt, but others specify only one mode, eg g.lite only for 128k. I've also been getting periodic outages lasting a minute or two. My ISP suggest I set my dns server IP's to their recommendation, instead of auto. Too early for me to tell if this works yet. Your P2P speeds may be misleading. Eg, if you're using K.lite the indicated speed of the peers you can potentially connect to may still be showing up as the older fastest speed you used to get - soon as you manage to download from a peer at your higher speed, it'll show higher potential speeds in your search lists. anyway that's just speculation - if using K.lite take a look at their help files.. quite informative. Let us know how ya get on

2004-04-14 20:04:00 | My change from 128k to 256k was very noticable. 128k download = 16kB/s 256k download = 32k/Bs changing login to jetstreamgames download = 250kB/s :) p2p download = 2kB/s to 30kB/s (lots of variables here that I am sure you are aware of) General surfing has also been great, more in particular secure sites and those with heavy flash components load a lot quicker. sam m

2004-04-14 20:20:00 | my handshake protocol is g.dmt I have set the DNS the same to my ISP but it hasn't stopped these outages, interesting though that yesterday i don't think i experienced one although over the weekend i experienced them about every 15 minutes or so! very frustrating, no wonder telecom can't find a solution to it! i have writen to Orcon to see if they have me down for jetsurf as i'm now feeling there has been an admin mistake which has resulted in my staying on getting jetstart. stu jetsurf is resold from telecom so orcon doesn't really come into the picture that much in regards to settings.

2004-04-14 21:40:00 | Have you changed your log-in details? Orcon uses the following format: Jetstream username@fastadsl.net.nz Jetstart username@jetstart.jet.net.nz Just a thought J :D

2004-04-14 22:24:00 | When I changed from Jetstart to Jetstream the speed did not increase until immediately after I powered down and powered up the router. | godfather (25) | |

You need to change your logon otherwise you will still be going thru the JetStart connection and still only getting the 128k speed. Also you may have to wait for the end of your current billing cycle for it to become active. |

2004-04-15 01:17:00 | yes my logon is @fastadsl.co.nz I run them up saying i was keen for it around the mid of March, and we were waiting until 3 of April for when the new telecom billing cycle starts. i was sent an email the the 1st of April telling me to change my logon. I'm still waiting to here what Orcon has to say about the matter.
