| 229563 | 2004-04-15 23:39:00 | Anyone who has not seen the number for the new GeForce 6800 Ultra and are in the market for a top of the line graphics card might want to have a read of the review at tomshardware.com "Compared to the GeForce 6800 Ultra, both the Radeon 9800XT and the FX 5950 Ultra look like outdated toys from the last century." "As the resolutions increase, the 6800 Ultra's lead over the Radeon 9800XT and the FX 5950 Ultra just keeps growing. " looks like this card has set a new standard in speed and such like. |

One of the benches reported it running a demo at 147fps at 1600x800 with 8xAA and 4xaf,the 9800xt was performing at 48fps.... I believe it also needs a 480w psu to run it. Nice if you have the money but way out of my leauge,It will be interesting to see if ATI's next card can match it for performance. |

The retailer I use said it would be cheaper than the FX5900U at the date of release... which would mean a price point under $800 incl GST. Something to look forward to! Lo. |

| 229566 | 2004-04-16 02:11:00 | I wouldn't put any money on that,There is no way any NZ retailer knows what the price point will be,Nvidia have stated they will try and get it on the US market for the same price as the prior cards on release(US$400) i believe. Given the exchange rate and the likelyhood of strong worldwide demand,Plus the fact that some US stores have announced a price $499 then its anybodies guess. However i will eat my shorts if the 6800 ultra is available on release at a cost of $800 inlc gst. |

| 229569 | 2004-04-16 05:16:00 | Heres a random answer, yes, I (or my work did) spent 1100 on the graphics card I amusing when I write this. But I wouldn't spend that much on a card for myself personally... At work I do quite a bit of cad that is greatly aided by a card with powerful 2d rendering capability, something that is often overlooked by most gfx cards, and sadly left to the cpu. Also I run a pair of large monitors, and my old sub $500 card was sweating to render even the most simple image on a single smaller monitor than I run now... Craig. |

| 229570 | 2004-04-16 05:21:00 | Me too. Bought a Ti4400 when they were first released. Since then, have bought an FX5900U at time of release too. Dunno whether it was ever over $1,000 tho... pretty close tho! Lo. |

Tried playing Far Cry the other day once it finally arrived. My machine handled the demo fine with everything turned all the way up to full and what a feast for the eyes. The real thing however I had to turn down most. Had to reduce screen size to 1024x768x32. Turn a few of the other things down as well. Bit of false advertising really with such a stunning demo that the real game can't match on the same machine. My specs are P4 3Ghz, 1GB Dual channel RAM, GForce FX5900Ultra with latest drivers, Creative Audigy 2ZS sound card with 7.1 speakers. 240GB of Hard drive space set up as 2 a RAID0 2x120GB SATA drives. All up cost to build was about $6000 in even numbers. Unreal 2004 however really humms turned full up. |
