229988 2004-04-18 23:08:00 Ollie if you people to reckonmend you a graphics card could you please post your budget? Are you using a CRT or LCD monitor? Do you have a prefrence ATI or nVidia? How long do you intend to keep the card? Pete O'Neil (250)
229989 2004-04-19 03:28:00 Hey Pete,
I am using a Samsung Samtron 50(M) E

I would be willing to part with up to $500-$550 so I would be set up for the long term. I don't want to be upgrading again too soon.

As for my preference, well I don't really know which on is best.
NVidia seems to have the reputation of been the best, but as for some of the comments on this forum, I may have to go with ATI.

Unless you get the 6800 or 9800, I don't think any graphics card is going to last for more than 1 1/2 years without been upgraded to run the next level of games.
Thanks for the help.

229993 2004-04-19 04:02:00 Get whatever you need to run Far Cry well.

This game is incomparable. Play it on a good system and you will be blown away by its graphics. Get good sound as well and you'll be in gaming heaven.

Cheers

229994 2004-04-19 04:03:00 I may have come down to a decision between the-

Radeon 9600 Pro, 256MB, 8x AGP
Radeon 9600 XT, 256MB, 8x AGP
MABEY the GeForceFX 5900 XT,- although it only has 128MB RAM

Any votes are welcome.
Any other cards that you would like me to check out?

229995 2004-04-19 04:58:00 Have a look for a Powercolour 9600XT Bravo if you go the Radeon 9600XT route. It has slightly faster ram e.g 680mhz as opposed to 600mhz. Dont waste your money on a 9600Pro. I think you are wasting your money buying a card with the extra 256mb of RAM. A Radeon 9600XT or PRO doesnt have the power irrelivant of RAM to do Farcry with high levels of AA/AF let alone at high res's. The Geforce FX5900XT is faster than a Radeon 9600XT by a considerable amount 20-40%, it should be avalialbe in 256mb of RAM, but like the Radeon isnt fast enough to need the extra ram.
