230351 2004-04-18 12:01:00 Hi Peoples,
I have a Silitek SK-2690 keyboard and its a nice little keyboard.....
But the silly thing is (Silitek.... hey no pun intended) the keyboard is not recognised when I boot up. When that happens I have to reboot (sometimes multiple times) to get it recignised. I'm on Win XP Pro and it's getting a bit annoying.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in Advanced.........

230352 2004-04-18 12:05:00 Can be a symptom of a dying CMOS backup battery.
Not a guaranteed cure but easy to eliminate.

230353 2004-04-18 12:13:00 That could be it..... think it's time for the battery to retire..... you think two years of use is long enough? AZREAL (1795)
230354 2004-04-18 12:25:00 Another possible thing is the connection on the motherboard has a cold solder joint problem.

When computer boots the first time the motherboard is still cool. After running a few times the joint connects due to expansion.

Just a possibility here.

Do you find on warmer days it will work first time?

230355 2004-04-18 12:26:00 Two years is not a long life for a cmos battery, I would expect 3-4 minimum, however I had a new battery die in a matter of days so anything is possible. Is your clock keeping good time?

My problem was the same as yours, not recognising keyboard.

Cheers

230359 2004-04-18 22:19:00 Hi. At a real push you could go Start, Programs, Accessories, Accessibility, etc and use the On-Screen Keyboard with your mouse. Forget the keyboard altogether!! ;) :D Scouse (83)
230360 2004-04-19 00:48:00 Well actually I got this keyboard recently. I did not have such problems with the one before... I've just changed a new CMOS Batt and see if the problems solved.

BTW the keyboard is a PS2 type.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions
