230583 2004-04-21 04:23:00 I am becoming Quite adept at my archival process. I hope to update to a DVD writer sometime soon, which will help immensely.
I get HD video from various sources. I get Linux Distros on Bittorrent (the best symetrical distribution method for large files IMO)
Upload the edited video, stream music from Epitonic.com (http://www.epitonic.com) & fully indulged in my Buffy fandom, getting the TV shows as they were screened in the US... amongst other things.
Once I migrated to Broadband, I found ways to improve my net experience. Personally I want more. Cant wait for ever broader band ;-)

230584 2004-04-21 09:24:00 Excessive usage? Bah there should be no such thing. If I had it my way, I'd have Gigabit sat connections for all NZ, and if there was a limit, it would only be the maximum you could possibly download in a month while maxing out the connection.

7Gb theoretical limit from woosh is pansy stuff. They are in la la land. Its stuff all data. You can get more on Jetstart and the overall experience is twice as good because the latency is only a fraction of that on woosh.

With Woosh, you might get 7Gb limit, but 500ping, 250k speed.
With Jetstart, you would get 10Gb limit + free national, but 70ping.

Which do you think is much nicer for overall surfing etc.

I did 27gb last month, but ran out of hard drive space and was burning stuff to cd, so I've done less this month. 280Gb worth of hard drive on the way to me shortly ]:)

Well I am on Jetstart and I have a 10GB limit and can push that when I feel like it. Recently according to Paraside I have been using about 4-5GB per month. However acording to JetStream usage meter I have been using 17-21GB per month. Now I know I dont have space on my hard rive to use 17-21GB per month as it would fill up pretty quick. In fact it would fill one o them up in 2 months and the other not much more as it is quite full already.

Personally if I was on the 256K plan I would consider 20-30GB reasonable usage. After all they are saying unlimited usage in one sentence but then say we will limit it in another. IHug did exactly the same thing with the satellite. It was unlimited usage when they hooked me into getting it. Then all of a sudden a big slow down which they failed to acknowledge they had done until too many people complained. So they put the speed up but introduced a download limit.
I removed myself as soon as I could from this.

Yup that would be "fair" & if that were the only option for my broadband, I would no doubt sculpt my usage a little closer to the bone .

But then thats what the free market is about, someone providing these services as "unlimited"

Taking customers away from wherever else they were .

Trying to make money .

Anyway, to stay on topic . With regards to Jetstream having a higher data cap, to compare apples with apples, I dont get charged a red cent for any usage over 7gb where Xtra will charge . . . what 20c? more? Im not sure . But Im fairly certain that its not just a fone call saying are you aware of your usage? :-D yay for woosh
