231028 2004-04-27 00:01:00 So I checked out some of the alternatives and decided to just update messenger after all. (Trillion does not support chat via headset and various reasons for the others). So I go to use it again today and it prompts me to download yet another version. I'm guessing the version I downloaded last week never worked for some reason. Guess I better have another look at the alternatives cos I'm fed up with msn messenger yet again! Danger (287)
231029 2004-04-27 00:08:00 I haven't had the message to update messenger (windows or msn) for quite some time. I looked and can't find an option not to check for updated versions, my current versions are 6.1.0211 msn messenger or 4.7.2009 windows messenger. Jester (13)
231030 2004-04-27 00:16:00 We've just had to update all MSN Versions in our shop, otherwise it wont let our customers sign in :-(

So what's so grand about MSN 6.2? There's a guy with a big aff' on the website (messenger.xtramsn.co.nz), and they try and infect the work PC's with more poison, but I see little differences otherwise?!

Man Im glad I use aMsn today... ;-)

231031 2004-04-27 00:19:00 If you find another messenger program that you like to disable Windows Messenger with this little script.

231033 2004-04-27 04:00:00 Install WinXP SP2, it'll let you stop it from loading at startup.. Then simply disable it in Outlook Express (Again, get a better email client).

If you're not happy with MSN, then try aMsn:
http://amsn.sf.net

Origionally a Linux app, its been ported to Windows. Dont forget to grab imagemagick so you can have the User pic's too :-)

231034 2004-04-27 05:05:00 So far this is what Ive noticed is different:
Contacts with a Mobile Device now show as Yellow
When writing a message, if you type an emote hotkey such as ( H ), it automatically changes it to the graphic rather than waiting for you to send the message

Anybody noticed anything else?

Do you know if it's possible using aMSN for Windows to specify the connecting port?

By default MSN uses 1863, apparently it used to be able to fail-over to 80 however I am yet to be able to get it out of the rather draconian firewall at work.

231037 2004-04-27 10:00:00 I think microsoft are getting too cocky... expecting everyone to download their huge exe just so we can use use their crappy commercialised messenger... expecting everyone to be on broadband...

I say suck my d**k MS... I'm going to aMSN.

And as soon as I get the backing, I will start a better network than MSN, start a better OS than Windows so everyopne can be at peace and get the most out of their pooters...

Your days are numbered microsoft....
